Fuel tank ventectomy

Featured Replies

Has anyone found a guide with illustrations as im thinking of doing the ventectomy on the fuel tank today.

Found a few online guides but there a bit sketchy.

Thanks in advance peeps :-)

Do you mean filling the expansion area in the fuel tank?

There isn't a guide needed, you brim the tank, press the button to release the air out and then fill it up again, very simple procedure

Yip, that's exactly what im after.

That's what i've been doing but it takes ages to fill, figured i might as well do the vent mod.

I only use the vent fill procedure when going on mega long holiday trips, the extra 10 litres or so of derv makes a big difference to your range then

I have no idea what this topic is but sounds cool :D

Allows you to fill expansion tank and get more miles, less time at the pumps can only be a good thing lol

I do it at every fill, the longer range makes me think the car doesn't cost as much to full by less frequent trips to the fuel station ;)

Does come to a bit of a shock when paying when it's over £70 that's worst case though when tank is nearly empty, I hardly let mine fall below 1/4 so it doesn't cost as much to fill it!

I put 50 quid in and run till lifht on lol

Reading this thread reminds me of the othrr day filling up. I was waiting behind somone at pumps and as he was filling car he was shaking the car like ****. Funny as hell as he got a right sweat on

Open fuel flap

You will see a screw undo that screw

Then pull the surround and fuel flap off

To the right hand side you will see white plastic

You need to use either a flat head screw driver or just your fingers to push the clip in

Then just push the white plastic bit out

Then remove the spring and button thing

Put the white plastic bit back in and put back the surround fuel flap

Now you can fill up without pressing the button (but just remember)

I think its worth noting here you shouldn't do this on a petrol car.

I know, its for mk1 fabia vrs.

I know, I just mentioned it for the owners of other Fabias who come here :)

I don't fill my car up so often, every time I do.. The car breaks!

Diesel expands more than petrol tho.

I just fill and use the nozzle to push it at same time. Then keep an eye on it in the neck. Normally get an extra 12-13l in there.

From my limited understanding, diesel expansion is only a problem in places with an ambient temperature of around 45°C.

Living in Scotland, there will be no problem at all lol

Don't forget the negative impact on acceleration and economy for the first 100 miles or so due to the extra mass of fuel you're carrying. :p

Indeed. If you do you'll destroy the charcoal canister.

Anyone got a picture of this? I can't see one on mine... maybe im stupid! I didn't realise the slots in the cap where for resting on the flap either until i came to this forum - lol

Diesel expands more than petrol tho.

Diesel expansion coefficient is 0.00046/degC

Petrol expansion coefficient  is 0.00100/degC

Petrol expands over 2x faster than diesel and more importantly, emits lots of vapour.

Also, diesel car has no charcoal canister so ventectomy is safe. Do not attempt ventectomy on a petrol car or long term your project may go up in smoke, literally.
