Bolero problem

Featured Replies

Hope someone can advise.

Made a long UK wide trip over the last couple of weeks ( Scotland to South Coast) and had a bad experience with the Bolero unit in my car (MY 2013). It kept losing the station on FM - the display would stay on selected station but the 'channel' would jump to something else. I've never had this issue in any other car on the same roads so I'm trying to work out it I have an antenna fault or if the unit itself is defective.

Any thoughts appreciated. All other functions ok apart from the unsolicited channel hopping.

Thanks in advance

Can't say for sure but it sounds like when you have selected TP -traffic announcements-they can do this.

Agreed.

Caught me out a few times.

I have the same issue on my Superb, it's been in twice and every time the dealer says we cannot find a fault. I use the TP as the work commute can be frustrating without it, I have a few alternative routes.

Same with my 2012 Octavia. It has been to the dealers who could not replicate the fault by driving it a few miles so 'could not' fix it even though I had given them a printout of the thread linked above. I contacted Skoda UK who phoned me back and suggested that I take the car back to the dealer and get them to download the main controller memory (takes about an hour) and send it to Skoda UK. I have not done this yet but it is very annoying when it changes chanel by itself.

Thanks guys. The thread posted by ZIB seems to be the exact issue. The traffic messages were a real pain when in the Midlands (so many local BBCs) but the fault was reflecting the thread almost exactly. Off to Henry's tomorrow I guess.

Thanks again

Mine does the exact same thing.

Any idea how much a dealer would charge to do a firmware update ?

Had this problem 3+ yrs with no resolution from dealer as they couldn't reproduce it.

Happens randomly maybe 4 times in 20 miles or never in a 100 miles.

Not a TP problem as tried switching function off for a weeks on end and problem still occurs same sort of

pattern if random can be described as a pattern. Skoda UK just referred me back to dealer who again unwilling

to do anything. No bolero firmware available inspite me insisting they look deeper into it...so hopefully

didn't get a brush off. Irritated with issue and "Tough" response to an issue I have never had with any other car.

It's strange that the radio shows it tuned to the original station even when it is clearly receiving another one ( no fixed pattern to the actual 'jumped to' station). To get back to the original you have to select another one and then go back to the original. Mearly selecting the shown original station again does nothing to reconnect it.

Dealer/SkodaUK response to problems ' *rap ' if computer say NO!!

Off topic but gob-smacked by the brilliant level of customer care you get from 'Apple' if you have a hardware problem.

Others should take note...maybe selling cars is too easy!!

Rant over!!!

I think the only firmware update was back in 2010 ish when there was a problem with slow reading SD cards or similar. I'm assuming mine has this as dealer insists there isn't one. Why should you be charged to fix an issue (firmware update) or is this a money making scheme and NOT Customer Care.?

The way of the world I'm afraid...."Your call is very important to us"..but we'll still keep you waiting on the line for maybe hours on end!!!.....Customer what?

Happening very, very occasionally on a 2014 FL - so presumably the 'fault''s still there.

I might be too late in replying, but Camberley Skoda took pains to diagnose and fix the fault with mine once I'd managed to demonstrate the problem (via a video) to them.  The next time I was in there, I spoke to the head technician again, and he said they'd had another that they'd not been able to fix.  I am wondering if the problem is related to the BBC implementation of traffic broadcasts compared to the Czech local implementation.

How did they fix yours? If firmware can you reference it with a reference/version number so can chase Dealer again.

I did that in the thread linked in #4.

Can I assume those expecting or with 2014 cars will not experience this problem as the software should be the very latest.

Afraid not - still there on ours (March 2014).

Don't bank on that.  I gave up in frustration with my local dealer when he flat-out denied that there was an update available which fixed the slow SD card problem.  I even showed him the Briskoda threads where people reported having had that update applied: he basically said they were all mistaken.  I'd have paid him to do the work but he denied there was any work to be done.

It was a classic example of "computer says no": they plug the thing in and their system says there's no update available.  Their system is provably wrong - because other dealers have managed to locate and install an update, but they had to take a difference approach to get it done.  What gets my goat with my local dealer is the arrogant way that he dismisses any evidence which conflicts with his view of the world, and refuses to even consider examining the possibility that someone out there might have better knowledge than he does.  The fact that he won't even consider investigating further in return for money makes him an idiot IMO.  Sadly, the only other Skoda dealer nearby is Arnold Clarke, and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I note from the other thread that your Bolero won't report its firmware version by pressing and holding the Setup button.  That's the same as mine.  I reckon that means that you don't have the fixed firmware.

I wonder if the station skipping problem is the "curve problem" that the updated firmware is supposed to solve?  (The SD card scanning speed fix is not documented as being part of the update, but it does actually fix that too.)  If I knew what the symptoms of the "curve problem" problem were supposed to be, I'd tell my dealer that it's doing that and see if that could help him to locate the update somewhere in their system.

More and more we are looking for an alternative (not easily done) and the main reason is the level of issues we have had ( not including this)

ANY THE WAY SKODA RESPOND TO ISSUES (Dealer and Skoda UK). With car sales as they are (bouyant) I suppose they don't need to do much and don't). But on the way to loosing a first time customer.

Product knowledge is not a strong point too, and I think Customer Care is run by an outsourced outfit with

patchy knowledge if my experience is anything to go by ..but could be wrong.
