glow plug help

Featured Replies

hey guys im jus looking for a quick step by step guide on removing the glow plugs if any one has the time thanks :)

They are pretty easy to change, just be careful screwing new ones in as head is alloy and plugs are steel and its quite easy to knacker threads in head.

A small extendable mirror from a tool shop is a good help ;)

Thanks guys

I'll give you a tip. Don't!!

Unless there is a problem leave em alone. If you break one trying to remove them you'll wish you never started.

Your not wrong! :)

Broke one a Td golf few years ago, found a good way of removing though;)

Pull the centre out of glow plug, then hammer in the nearest sized torx bit in your socket set, came out a treat :)

I need to the EML has come on an its sayin one of them is faulty..

Check the wiring on them first, and the earth strap. It can sometimes be an electrical issue rather than the plug itself causing the EML to trip. Any issues cold starting or excessive smoke when cold?

If you do attempt to DIY them I'd spay a generous amount of penetrating oil on 30mins before starting, should help reduce the chances of them getting stuck.
