No +12v power at pin 16 of the OBD port inside.

Featured Replies

Hello!

Asking this question on behalf of a mate.

And it's not on my Octy - it's on his Mk. 4 Golf.

I have VCDS lite and a cable which I use successfully on my Octy, and have been using on his Golf too. Works just as well on both cars, obviously.

He has had some running problems this week, so I plugged in my cable. Odd, the LED on the cable plug did not light up. Then once I fired up the software, there was no connection to the car's ECU at all.

I got a multimeter and checked for +12v at his OBD pin 16 (with the ignition on, yes :D ) and there is no power there. Just in case we were being mental and missing something, he took it to our local friendly garage who plugged in their all-singing all-dancing diagnostics, and they confirmed the lack of power at pin 16.

So, question is - anyone know why there is no power there? Would / could it be a cabling fault, or something more sinister like the ECU?

I hope someone can help - thanks in advance!

No comms and no 12v sounds like a fuse or wiring issue.

It's fuse 12 on a mk4 Golf. It'll stand out because it's one of only two brown fuses (7.5A)

I am no expert on the OBD port but I remembered the topic coming up before in relation to there being a problem after fitting an after market radio. I found this link:

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/aftermarket-radio.html

Seems some garages refuse to scan the port if an after market radio has been fitted.

Might not be relevant to the ages of cars in question but worth looking further.
