civic type r to fabia tsi .... wow!

Featured Replies

well today i went to carlisle to pick up my 62reg fabia vrs. traded in my civic type r ep3, lsd and induction only mods. having never driven a fabia tsi i didnt no what to expect. i cant believe how quickly these little animals accelerate and hands down quicker than my type r. took little getting used to the dsg box but i prefer when in sport to let the gears change on them own and not use the paddles. very impressed it seems way quicker than the 177bhp as stated. cracking little car. just wanted to share my thoughts. comments welcome....

Enjoy, it's a fun car, even with a few glitches that have arisen.

I always enjoyed mine and still more my partners newer version.

i had braided hoses and ferodo pads on my civic with a race fluid which was a great upgrade. i notice that the fabia has a spongy break peddle and not the sharpest of stops. what do people recommend as an upgrade and where from thanks

i will post some pics up tomorrow. its black with black wheels think its the black pack. has climate control . parkinh sensors. sat nav. heated seats quite a good spec. didnt realise how dated my civics interior is ! 14000 miles. love black cars when clean but its maintaining it.

Welcome mate :-). Very good spec. Pretty much everything there. Mine is black (estate) like you say, awesome when clean...but doesn't last long haha.

looked lovely and clean when i picked it up. but been like a kid with a new toy and the lash down of rain today had got rid of that. this car is more practical as i have two children and 3door civic was a pain. overall very pleased and still cant get over how quick it is.

Wait till u get stage one remap different animal lol o and welcome

Welcome buddy, sounds like a good one with the spec. First upgrade for it h&r rarb.

as for brakes walter, I would suggest yellowstuff pads, and a fluid change, that should sort your problems... mine now handles a day on track woithout any brake issues :)

thanks for the replys. can someone explain the difference between when in normal drive and flooring it to been in sport and flooring it or using the paddle shift. power seems the same? im still trying to get used to the setup

Holds onto revs for longer?

With your foot to the floor there is no difference in the settings...the lowest gear is selected and held to the red line,so maximum power.

Personally I never use the sport setting because it revs the engine too high most of the time.

In D you can pootle along with the revs low but quickly click the paddle to drop two gears if you need sharp acceleration.

If i want fast acceleration from a standstill I slide the lever across to give manual control and then let the engine rev as much as I need before changing up with the paddle...you can of course do the same thing by pushing the lever itself, which some prefer.

from a standstill there is more revs applied to the clutch in sport or manual compaired to "D"

S holds the gears longer than D, but the quickest way on a 0-100 sprint (0-60 is over too quick and mostly wheelspin or traction control) is in Manual and DON'T change up - it will do it itself at the red line.

I think I've used S 3 or 4 times in 60k - and only to see if I like it or not.  Leave it in D and use the paddles for a temporary override (VERY useful).  One trick to learn is not to go totally full throttle - the last few mm (where it gets stiffer) of throttle forces kickdown in Manual, D or S and actually seems to make for slower progress as the gearbox wasn't expecting it and has to preselect a completely different gear.

It will feel very different to a type R - the vRS has a bucket load of torque from tickover upwards..

The link to the CTR boys discussing our car is quite fun.

If I have read it right, they had to pull out a heavily tuned Type R to match the little Fabia in a sprint.  Which given that launch is one of the weaker points of this car due to traction says a lot.  I fancy a modified vRS with the caster kit from superpro and decent track rubber would be a hand full for even modified (excluding those with forced induction added) CTR's.

well from my own personal experience from owning two type rs this is far quicker. my civic handled better from stock setup but power wise its completely different

Haha, I have no doubt it handled better than a Stock vRS my little boys Smart Trike takes corners better than a stock Fabia.

Point & Shoot and Proud!!!

Made me chuckle reading that.

Enjoy it! I've only had a test drive in one but awesome cars!!

Where you from in not far from carlisle

I would have thought the Civic would be quicker. But maybe it's that it's quicker if you really go for it and rev it right up.

The Fabia will no doubt have more torque too.

This made me laugh. Was out with my little dude today and we had an 'incident' involving him and a young girl on a bike. He was too busy 'looking at that girl' no insurance details swapped ;)

But back on topic. I hate the civic. Love my vrs. My opinion obviously. Wonder how much we have to do to match the handling?

the fabia is certainly quicker. i know how to drive them and when to change gear. obviously around a corner it would be better but the fabia would catch back up. the lack of low down torque is what spoils the type r. i can honestly say my civic in a straight line wouldnt of had a chance

Yeah... I couldn't live with such low torque of the Hondas. And the peak torque is way up near the red line!

Plus the speed is effortless in the Fabia... just floor it! lol
