Wheel wobble on 205/40/17 fronts

Featured Replies

Hi all, had my 2003 VRS less than a week and today it developed a wheel wobble at low speed and motorway speeds. Wobble seems much worse when slow. At some point previous owner has put the lower profile tyres on (which I have booked in to be replaced on Tuesday). Does anyone think this could cure the problem? This is a new issue and wasn't experienced on the test drive. Car had brand new MOT & no advisories on Monday prior to collection. Any thoughts?

My tyres are 225/40/18 on my 2008 VRS and had thought it was a wheel balance problem, after buying from Skoda dealer.  It was a 3 year old car with 2 year mileage.  It had Mercedes AMG 18" alloys instead of the normal Skoda ones.  The previous owner had 19" ones, which cracked, hence the different wheels.  Didn't think much of wobble during test drive and ended up purchasing it.

Got all wheels balanced and had noticeable wobble at motorway cruising speed.  When I got the the tyre place to check it out further, there was a buckle is some of the wheels, resulting in the wobble at certain speeds.  Perhaps this is what's causing yours?

Cheers. I'll leave it on the drive and take SWMBO's car till Tuesday when the tyres are replaced. Get them to investigate. Definitely wasn't there last week on test drive and all this week. Appeared today - haven't bumped it at all. Would've thought MOT might've picked up something serious?

Can rely on MOTs bud it's a fine line between a pass and scraper.

@Fan Tsang - did you replace wheels to cure the problem?
