Movie downloads

Featured Replies

Tesco's Blinkbox certainly allows you to download a film, but when it comes to playing, it does need a live internet connection to validate the DRM licence.

Personally, I would put lots of my owned films onto a portable USB hard drive and pop it in my suitcase. That's over 100 films on a £40ish 500Gb drive.

Google Play will let you download bought films.

Better to buy the DVD and rip them. Then you're not tied in.

But is that on an android device only?

This site claims to offer movie downloads legally. No idea if it is genuinely legal, perhaps someone else can tell?

Would be interesting to know if anyone has subscribed to this.

Trouble with the internet is, is thats its inherently insecure, and everybody will try to rip you off.  Wikipedia is a prime example.

Given the, erm, "quality" website design on that I'm dubious.

Plus all the used images are for rubbish movies or public domain ones...

I don't trust it either, and am NOT happy handing over credit card details or my personal info to some website I've never heard of and certainly don't trust

Probably. Not investigated myself.

I prefer to buy the DVD and rip it, then I can put it on what I like.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

So they have been around for a while, however I dont see anything on the website about keeping copies of the films, only that you can watch them

the "showbox" app lets you stream and download films and box sets etc. just not sure of legality

Showbox is a legal app. I have used many apps like: Netflix, popcorntime, megabox and many more but showbox is best among all the other apps. showbox have amazing features like movie streaming and TV show streaming with or without subtitles in high definition. You can stream a huge amount of movies, TV shows or music without paying a single penny. :) I recommend this showbox apk link (official).

The necropost above has reminded me of something.

Bluestacks2 is supposed to let you run Android apps on a windows PC.

I havent tried it yet, so cannot confirm if it works, let alone if it works for watching downloaded films, nor if this would still be legal.

Personally, I say bugger them, if they wont provide a service, I will rip and make my own.

At the moment it's legal to stream movies etc from the web.

There was a recent (2014) EU case where it was the decision of the court that streaming  did not equal downloading or permanent storage even with content caching.

NLA Vs Mel****er at the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU)

It is illegal to make copyright films available for download or streaming (i.e. to act as a seed)

It is illegal to download a film/tv show to store permanantly

It is illegal to sell a device preconfigured to access copyrighted material (i.e. Kodi with Specto/Genesis)

I'm sure this is being challenged and I can't see streaming remaining legal. But for now it is.

Bluestacks2 works fine on a PC , downloaded the Showbox APK it loaded in plays and downloads movies a treat. All downloaded movies are buried in a virtual SD file so the can't be copied. If you want to do a dodgy Windows 10 registry hack you can get to them.

Not wanting to trash the PC I did not bother.

Thanks, I was struggling to get it to install, as it is going on an old XP box, and kept crashing out at 1%. Turned out it needs .Net 4.xx, and this PC only had 2.xx, so tried 4.5 - failed, 4 - failed, 3.5 - failed, 3 INSTALLED!!! then 3.5, 4, 4.5; rebooting after every install :dull: :dull:

Stupid M$ wont even let me install IE to get update working, says IE7&8 dont work on XP, which I KNOW is balls, because I had IE8 on my last XP box.
