Another member asked me to look at an ebay listing for a VCDS cable as it seemed too good to be true.

And guess what, it is!

 

I asked the seller if it would work with the latest beta 14.6.0 and if it was a HEX+CAN cable.

 

The reply I got was:

 

Yes it's Hex can cable

Fully registered version (not demo) of 12.12 only

Which tells me that it is a fake, plus the screenshots are of 12.12.0, not 12.12.2, and software is supplied with the cable, which you don't get from Ross-Tech.

Will that make any difference to eBay?...Most of what comes out of China is fake

but this is coming from Preston LOL.

 

Probably make no difference to ebay whatsoever, but I do know Ross-Tech take piracy seriously.

Hopefully now no one on here will fall for it though.

Good post Andy, hope it helps others spot fakes in future, as that is a pretty convincing ad on the face of it. Apart from of course the price, which really should raise alarm bells..
