vrs se buying advice

Featured Replies

Off to look at 992 tomorrow, just looking for advice, anything important to look at above the usual. I know they smoke abit (black not blue) but anything else?

Cracked fog lights

Wear on the drivers bolster

Leaky rear door seals (check carpet and under mats

Peeling rear spoiler

Rob :)

Console bushes leading to clonks from the front suspension also.

Overinflated asking prices for a 7 year old diesel hatchback may be worth mentioning.

How the trade is still pricing them at £7,000 amazes me, considering they were a bit over £12,000 seven years ago.

However, being such nice cars the demand is still there to keep prices up.

I paid £8,000 for mine when it was two years old!

Couple on eBay and the sale section under £5,000 so still reasonable prices ones about as well.

Check all of the tool kit is in the boot - along with the locking wheel nut.

Also check that the cd changer is present and in working order.

Check the cruise control works as it should too.

Oh and how the tread wear is on the front wheels, uneven - tracked needed.

Check the rears of the front seats for marks from people jumping into the back and catching the leather with their shoes.

I bought mine for £5200, 80k on the clock, FSH.

Happy viewing and test driving.

Cam belt :)

Cam belt was done at 49000 so should be fine. Just doing hpi on it as we speak. Thanks all for the pointers. I'll let you know how it goes.

Aircon; compressors are not cheap to replace.

Clutch and turbo - both not cheap to replace!

Well the vrs se was very nice and I'm hopefully picking it up Saturday morning. FSH cam belt done at 49000 and it's

Now on 67000. Can't wait to park it next to my mk1 octy vrs on the drive :-) thanks for all the advice guys.

Glad to hear

I hope it is 'unmolested'

Get it polished and waxed - the blue comes up beautifully ;)

Im hoping to spend the whole of Sunday on it so I'll get some pics up when its done.

oh, btw -

check the rear speakers work on the ICE fader.

Also, my spolier has recently blistered, clutch n stuff went (£750 fitted - ouch).

It's just turned 100K n beginning to think I might cut my losses and get rid.  I miss my Uno Turbo.  Might just get her back on the road.....

Rob

ps, I agree that once you wash n wax polish, the blue comes up a treat!

Thinking I might rub the spoiler down and carbon wrap it for a short term fix. Whats ya thoughts?

Think it's tricky to wrap whilst fitted and a nightmare to reattach if you take it off. I'd let a body shop do it if I were you. I'm spraying mine myself but a poor job on my black one won't look as bad as a poor job on a blue one lol

You could try plastidip? Much easier than a proper paint job and you won't need to remove it. I think it's reasonably hardy as well.

Cheers guys, I want to keep it totally standard so I might get it booked in to a body shop. The wrap was just a cheap fix I thought of in the meantime.

My spoiler is nearly the same... Soon to blister I suspect - I am told it is a different quality of paint than the rest of the car.

It won't be cheap to get the spoiler sorted as I very much doubt the paint will be cheap - before the labour comes into it.

Or is the blue the same blue as the mk2 Octavias and Fabs ? If that is so then it could be cheaper than I expected.

Hopefully it won't be anything too expensive!

Yeah its race Blue the same as the mk2's. I picked the remaining laquer off whilst cleaning the car and then used some super resin polish on it and it looks 100 times better for now, so I'll give it coat of wax too and it should seal it for a bit longer.

The SE's are only in blue yes.

Standard vRS's were in: black, red, yellow and silver. The SE was built and released as the final thousand mk1 Fabia vRS's ever made.

I have only seen five, myself included.
