Is this correct?

Featured Replies

my aircon has been playing up recently, mailny cool, but not really cold.

When this happened on my Superb, the compressor was changed under warranty, and all was well.

Spoke with my local dealer earlier and was told if needed, the compressor would be changed under warranty, but if no fault is found £80 for a regas!

In all the years of driving new cars up to 4 years on lease, never once have I had to have a regas!

I was told that skoda recommend a regas every 2 years, even for new cars, and it is not covered under warranty.

Car is March 2012 so still in warranty

Is this correct?

thanks

Go to kwik fit it's 44.99 iirc. Plus no charge if it doesn't work

I recently drove one like yours. It only had 72k under 2 years. It was also the compressor. On my megane this also happened at 60k, it can happen in any make.

thanks, is it true that skoda recommend regassing after two years on all, new cars?

well, car went into dealer today and new compressor is required, on order now, under warranty. Just have to wait, as lots of demand now for compressors across the group!

Yeah, they also will recommend you need discs and pads every MOT too. They gotta earn money somehow. If its cold, you don't need a regass. If its not, it's leaking or something is broken. It's a closed system. I like to ask the dealer if their fridge needs a regass every 2 years too :)

I had the gas checked @ TMC in Canterbury, and it had 550g of gas, which was the maximum put in at the factory, so no gas has escaped in the 27 months since!

Nice chaps at TMC did not charge for checking, and they charge by the amount of gas used, so works out much less than a re gas elsewhere.

Well car went in for the compressor to be changed this week, and guess what? The amount of gas in the system was 650g!? they asked who refilled it and I mentioned TMC checked it and took out 25g and left it on 525g, which I witnessed on their machine.

They did  not fit the new compressor stating that maybe the issue was with too much gas, and to see how it is and get back to them.

So how can my gas go up?  I called TMC and they told me that their machine was calibrated before my car was checked, at a cost of £400.

Meanwhile, driving around yesterday, my aircon was somewhat cool, not cold!

Is there any fault within the system that causes the gas to increase?

Well, this is beginning to cheese me off to say the least, car was booked in for compressor change, but I was told that they also needed to replace a pipe, so they could not do the job, as they wanted to do it all at once!

This will be my 4th trip to sort this simple problem out, now am being told compressor is on back order!

Not happy!

well, now I am completely fed up! car booked in today for compressor change, and they fitted it, but got call just now to say that the system is not accepting gas, as their is a leak somewhere!

So car needs to be restripped down and checked for leaks, parts need to be ordered, bank holiday weekend - NO CAR until weds next week. ( i do have their Rapid courtesy car!)

Why don't they regas before reassembling front end?! then they can check quite easily for leaks?

There was NO leak before it went in, and I'm certainly not going to pay for this!!

My faith in this dealership is now being severely tested - used them for the last 5yrs now!
