Things that have impressed me about the Yeti

Featured Replies

New to Yeti (and to Skoda) but for what it's worth I've been really impressed by the following on the Elegance:

The general build quality - as good as (maybe better than) any VW.

The fact that the tailgate won't shut properly unless a window's open.  Not a criticism  - it's as airtight as the old Beetle!

The power and versatility of the 1.2TSI engine.

The ease of handling and pleasure of driving.

The quality and comprehensive facilities of the basic radio - far better than I expected.

The changes available via Maxidot.

The gear and recommended shift display (surprisingly useful)

The excellent gear ratios for town and 'normal' driving - sits quite happily at 30mph in 4th, and 5th is usable from around 40-45mph.

The quality of the leather seats (after reading various criticisms of them)

Minor criticisms:

The fact that the speedo shows 20/40/60/80 etc mph instead of 10/30/50/70 etc, which would have been considerably more useful in keeping to the UK 30, 50 and 70 limits.

The kph digital display that can't be changed to mph without persuading the car that it's Australian.

All in all, a great buy, with thanks for all the advice a year or so back in making the decision.   :sun:

What car did you have before the Yeti?

docc, welcome to the forum

The general build quality - as good as (maybe better than) any VW. Yes I agree

The fact that the tailgate won't shut properly unless a window's open.  Not a criticism  - it's as airtight as the old Beetle!,

But Heads display tells you, If its open.

The ease of handling and pleasure of driving.

Yes better than a Mini Cooper S, which was described as a Brick on Rail's, + more comfortable.

The changes available via Maxidot. Software helps improve.

The gear and recommended shift display (surprisingly useful), Have found with my Diesel/Auto, to be usefull, to keep Rev's UP, and fully enable your purchase,

to gain It's maximum Potential. After 30K, I now get 685 KM to a Tank, it was originally 575KM.

The excellent gear ratios for town and 'normal' driving - sits quite happily at 30mph in 4th, and 5th is usable from around 40-45mph.

The quality of the leather seats (after reading various criticisms of them), Yes did  after 1250 km., 2 Months after Purchase,

it felt like I just started driving. After 14 hours behind the Wheel.

My Landrover TD5/diesel did 385K before I bought my Snowman.

Enjoy

What car did you have before the Yeti?

A series of Golfs/Jettas/Boras.  And originally, a long time ago, a Beetle.  The Yeti's every bit as well put together as any of these were.  And more fun to drive, though the Beetle was good at the time.

Just remember what the kph reading is for the speed limits. I have calibrated mine using the sat nav and for example I know that 86kph is exactly 50mph in my car and similarly 119kph is exactly 70. Far more useful in motorway average speed sections than the way out speedo and its needle several mph wide. Even if the mph was enabled on the digital display 70mph on the display would not be a true 70, it would probably have to read 76 or 77mph to be a real 70!!

I have put larger tyres on my Freelander - 6%, and the speedo is now pretty much bang on. That is going from 225/55 R17 to 225/65R17. (As a side effect, the tyres I chose -General Grabber AT, have given me about 30mm extra ground clearance)

My Yeti was out by 3-4 mph on its 225/50 R17 tyres.

Well I have only just done over a 100 miles, impressed by comfort of seats, quietness in cabin, good ride, plenty of headroom(my height not size)lists of other good things but these are the most obvious .minor dislikes but not a prob is the instruments,so close to the octavia but so far away,so small increments on temp and fuel, just not req and you've guessed it speedo increments 20,40,60 etc,but very minor niggles that I can live with but so needless when the octy one is available,so this proberly makes me a bit biased, but really enjoying,

Hi Sadd55,

I use my Phone's,  Navigon app with Cockpit to monitor speeds, have found Speedo registers 6 K/P/H. lower than Sat Nav..

Recently got pulled over by a Copper who said I was doing 110 KPH in a 100 K zone, don't know what it is like overseas,

" I said No officer you have it wrong, my GPS says I was doing, 101 KMH, Book me and afterwards  you can contact your District Inspector so he/she can come here and

take a formal staement from me, His reply was "P**s off smart As*.

3 Close mates, all retired Police say commensence is gone, and its all about $$$$$ revenue.

When I said 100 miles,I meant miles since buying not mph, because we never speed in the uk?

I have the 2.0 Elegance, and am extremely pleased with it,

the Lioness on the other hand struggles to get in and out,

and cannot see the deeply recessed speedometer so it is

not so wife friendly.

I have just taken the rear seats out (anybody know what

they weigh?) to pick up a coffee table, what a huge space!

Funnily enough I was reading a review of a pre-FL Yeti somewhere earlier, they reckoned each seat was about 16kg.

TBH I think the problem is not so much the weight but that it's a slightly awkward lift, ie needing to reach into the vehicle from the outside so you're lifting with the weight away from your body at semi arms's length.

Release the middle seat roll it into the boot and lift out from the rear hatch, then do the same for the outer seats,  a lot easier on the back ;).

Hmmmm.....

Fold seat-back forwards.  Release rear catch and tip seat+back forwards.  Lift red-capped triggers to release seat clips from fixing rail.  All OK so far, and the seat unit can then be lifted up to clear the rail and be removed from the car.  But......

If you try to roll it back into the boot, the triggers are automatically re-locked round the rail (safety default).  To avoid this, the seat has to be lifted and moved back before putting it down again, to keep the clips away from the rail as they close.  Nothing achieved, it seems.

That's as I remember it, and I'm only half-way down my first glass of Oz Nectar for the evening.  Where am I going wrong?   :wonder:

The moving of the middle seat can be done while sitting in comfort on the outer seat  ;)

Ah, that sounds like a bit of a back-twister, Kevin :o .  Deadly for me!  A straight lift is safer, even for the proverbial feather

Brian

I have noticed the yeti doesn't seem to dent in situations where our golf dented easily. Though I don't want to tempt fate..
