Sunroof and headroom

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My first post. I expect to become a proud Octavia owner over the next few months, having discarded other potential vehicle choices on various grounds.

In order to shed some light on the interior - especially if I go black, rather than beige - I'm thinking of specifying a sunroof. However, I'm 6'4", and a bit concerned the glass roof might eat into headroom. It doesn't appear to be a very popular option, and none of the vehicles at my local dealership are so fitted, so I haven't been able to 'prove' the matter one way or the other.

Can any tall folk confirm from experience whether the sunroof option eats much headroom? In the front, with a comfortable driving position, I appear to have sufficient headroom on non-sunroof models. I've noticed when I sit in the rear of the hatch, though, that my head is forced forward by the sloping roofline, so I don't think there's actually a vast surplus of 'hat room' for my height.

Following much mind-changing and agonising, I'll probably go for a 1.4 TSi Combi Elegance. I don't really need the extra boot capacity of the estate, but I think it looks better - subjective, of course. If the sunroof is out, I'm tempted by Rio Red and beige Alcantara: a 'brave' (ie mad) choice?

Thanks for the site, by the way: a useful place to lurk and absorb knowledge from the experienced.

If you go Rio Red and Beige, go for the wood trim - it looks excellent in this combination.

I have a sunroof on my VRS hatch and its my favourite option, a must have for me. Use it a lot.

Sitting with my seat set fairly high, I have a good 3 inches clear above my head to the roof lining, and more to the glass itself. I am6 foot, if that helps at all.

Likewise, I'm a 6 footer and there's no issue for me either. The sunroof may not be a popular option but personally, I wouldn't be without it especially now the weather is finally improving.
