VW Sqeezes another 10bhp out of the PD TDI engine

Featured Replies

the noise from the engine could be interesting too :)

Similar to what BMW have done on the 3.0 diesel to create the 535d.

BMW have used a small turbo for the bottom end and a big turbo for massive top-end grunt, and it has a similar result of providing meaty power without masses of lag which would make it gutless at the bottom end.

Seems like twin chargers is the technology of the moment.

The 170 bhp 2.0 TDi is allready in the new Passat iirc.

Yup, and in the FR Seats too.

Haven't heard of successful a re-map for 140 which doesn't make it a dog to drive so i'm keen to see how VAG have acheived it.

..pikey mods? :)

Nope, they run the 1.9 PD (150 in the Leon, 160 in the Ibiza).

The Altea/Toledo/New Leon get the 2.0 TDI, but only the 140bhp version.

Lummox is right, the Passat was the first to get the 170bhp 2.0.

That 1.4 twincharger must still be fairly light too, could help the handling a bit.

Is anyone else shocked when they see a Golf MkV by how big the things are??

There is one outside my window now and it looks almost as big as the audi estate its parked next too...its taller for a start  Nice cars though.

Thats why I said it'd be a good engine for the Furby. Skoda Fabia vrs turbo- kompressor. Just rolls off the tongue or Skoda Fabia TK Maxx (to emphasize the fact that this engine has maximum effeciency).

..

not every new engine is going to be put in the fabia

i would have thought there will be a new fabia out before many more new engines getting introduced
