How much is "a service"?

Featured Replies

My tame mechanic has moved on.

He is no longer "tied to the VW corporate machine getting worked hard while the higher ups make all the cash" (he left on good terms clearly!) but is fixing air conditioners instead.

As such I'm searching for an actual garage to pick up work on the PastyFleet.

Mrs Pasty's Fabia is over due it's 70k service

how much should a small service be?

have seen a local VW specialist quoting £119

What is actually due in a 70k service?

That sounds quite reasonable from a specialist.

not a lot I don't think Sam

I've dug out the service book but left it at home

oil change and maybe a filter or 2

I think remember paying £90 at mates rates previously so I didn't think £120 was too bad

I'd just do it myself to be honest if it's just oil and filters.

An oil + filter change on a PD130 is a doddle.

You can get the bits needed for £30 and do it on your drive in under an hour.

Where you located?

well who knew

you can just pour dirty oil down the sink right? :D

Best just do it in the drain in the street ;)

That's where my neighbour's builders dumped all their leftover concrete so it must be okay. (And incidentally why, when it rains, our road floods and I am now fighting rust under my car since it hasn't stopped raining since about 2008.)

What about the fuel filter?

For a full service I charge around £120.

This is a full vehicle service, not just filters changed. All four brakes are stripped down and pistons pushed back with correct grease being applied. Type pressures checked, door locks and hinges oil'd and greased with genuine!! Vw grease and oils.

Oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and pollen filter.

Service light reset, service book filled out and stamped and a full diagnostic check and print out of any faults.

Just serviced the wife's Fabia VRS SE. Genuine parts from TPS that comprised of 5 litres of Quantum oil. Oil filter. Sump plug. Fuel filter. Pollen filter. Have a Jabba sport cone air filter so cleaned that. Parts total £40 inc VAT. My time about an hour and satisfying to know it's been done properly.

Did mine myself on monday.. got oil, fuel and pollen filters from euro car parts, Sump plug from ebay.. Then opie oils for 5l of castrol edge.. Cost me bout £50ish all in , could have done it for less but decided to splash out on the oil..

Thanks All

My tame mechanic is still alive he just moved away from being an actual career mechanic.

From what the service books tells me we changed the oil around 15k ago an the filters in the service before that 30k ago.

Will get the bits and get him to come round and do a "service-by-numbers" learning session with me.

That way it'll get done properly (and for cash) now and I can mess it up next time :)
