HID bulb replacement

Featured Replies

Hi one and all,

I wonder if someone could give me a little help here. The offside HID on my 2011 Superb estate has gone pop and I need to replace it but I've never dealt with HID bulbs before and am a little unsure as to the way forward. I've read that it is advisable to isolate the power to the headlights before attempting to remove the bulb due to the high voltage but try as I might I cant seem to locate a fuse in either fuse box that is for the headlights, I don't really want to disconnect the battery terminal if I don't need to. Also, does anyone actually have experience of changing these bulbs, easy, difficult and any advice would be a big help.

Thanks

Hi mate, are you actually asking about HID bulbs or original xenon bulb? If it's original xenon it's quite easy really just disconnect wire which is connected to the bulb, then just rotate the bulb and pull it out :), well that's how it was on my 2009 elegance ;)

I assume you mean the xenon bulb,as you have an Elegance,.Quite easy really, just like the old type halogen bulb except there is a ballsat on something on the back of the bulb that just pulls off and you fit to the new bulb.

It's MUCH cheaper to buy the bulb on the internet(search this site for websites) Skoda chard multiples of the cost. My 09 elegance bulbs are Osram D1s 35w

Always change in pairs.

Always change in pairs.

Second that.

Always change in pairs.

I'll third it..... Defo should always be done in pairs as xenons change colour with age so you'll probably end up with the two headlights being different colour shades. ;)

Cheers

Dave.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes they are D1s 35w . I plan on changing the pair at the same time.

The second part of my question was regarding the precautions when changing the bulbs, I've looked in the manual at the fuse layout and where it says I should find the fuses for the headlights there arent any. It shows the 2 slots where the fuses should be in the fuse box in the engine bay but they are empty.

When changing these bulbs, is it necessary to disconnect the battery or can I isolate the lighting circuit by removing the fuse, if it's the later then where is the fuse?

Thanks

I was with the guy that did mine recently and he just took the key out. Nothing else
