fitting roof rails

Featured Replies

Hi all .. don't know if anyone can help me I recently bought an Octavia ambient TDI estate, it does not have roof bars, which I am told by Skoda is unusual,  I have managed to get some from a breakers yard, but I am not sure if I can secure them with self tapping screws or are they bolted from the inside, if I peel back the black tracking there appears to be plugged holes I am guessing theses are where its secured but I wanted to get some info before I attempt anything,  thanks

I wouldn't think self tapping screws was the right thing to use - more likely bolts!

Hi thanks Mike so when you say bolted from the outside, does the bolt go into the car roof . and through the rails if so  what holds the bolt in place. I cant put a nut on the end without doing it from inside .or am I missing something  thanks

The bolt does not protrude through the roof into the car's interior.

As long as it's the right length Mike! ;)

No estate versions of the MkII Octavia came without roof rails in the UK, however this post suggests that some non-UK entry level Octavia estates did come supplied without the roof rails...

So either your car is an import or the previous owner has removed them.

Plenty on eBay...

You can see the threaded bolts in this listing above.

And other pair...

Ooo, not sure Mike, I did a quick search on here (which revealed our other thread :p ) and a quick Google image search for 'Octavia Ambiente' to check, nothing cropped up.

I'll take another look to see what I can find...

Hi thanks to all, when I went into the skoda dealers, they said roof rails were an option but it was unusual not to have them, but my car was originally  a company car so I guess it was to save a bit, maybe they had several, the Garage wanted £500 pounds to fit them Ha. going to pick them up tomorrow from the breakers for £40 pounds, I might need more help let you know how it goes ..
