A 14 plate BMW Alpina D3.......

Featured Replies

.....and I had a little traffic lights action today and damn what a lovely car it was.

I pulled up along side it and gave the guy a look of appreciation for his pretty car, instantly you could read the intent. With a clear section of national speed limit (70) road we sat there waiting for the lights to turn green.....boom we are off, I get a great start and nose infront look to my left and then it's adios baby he pulls away like I'm in reverse, I was like 'WTF' I thought the D3 was 2.0 tdi Biturbo with 214bhp and capable of 0-62 in 6.9 sec????? Little did I know I was up against it's mutant evolutionary big brother the 3.0 tdi Biturbo with a 350bhp 700Nm monster engine capable of 0-62 in 4.6sec, in the words of Ali G 'Restecpa'!!!!

I can just imagine the "I had a little traffic lights action" thread on a BMW forum!

I doubt the admiration will be quite the same in return lol!

Hope you turned of before reaching the next set of lights....

Nice, but sixty grand before options.. and the boot's too small ;)

Check this out for technical data:

http://www.bmwalpina.co.uk/ww/models-uk/d3-biturbo/technical-data/saloon.html

Tax band E 139g/km £125 a year, 53.3 mpg combined, 350bhp/700Nm and 173 mph, technology is seriously on the move gents!

That is seriously impressive.

Especially given the auto gearbox with torque converter too (although it can lockup on all the gears I believe).

Racing of any sort on public roads is for idiots. Not clever to post about it really.

The OP did state that the road ahead was clear and that it was a national speed limit road... I don't think anyone would classify that as a particularly risky action.

Not that I want to start an argument or anything, I just think you're focussing on the potential negative part of the post rather than the discussion about the epicness of the Alpina D3 :-)

I think what Billy meant to say, was that he was on a private test track!  :notme:  :notme:  :notme:

And with that little detail corrected, we can all say, Holy ****.............700nm!!!!!!

Racing on the road in any circumstance is always risky and also illegal, section 12 road traffic act 1988.

12Motor racing on public ways.

(1)A person who promotes or takes part in a race or trial of speed between motor vehicles on a public way is guilty of an offence.

(2)In this section “public way” means, in England and Wales, a [F1highway] and, in Scotland, a public road.

(That was definitely worth saying again).

is it classed as racing if all thay did was get to 70mph and stop ? as far as i can see there is no point in the tread that mentions breaking the speed limit i often try to get to the allowed speed limit asap lol ;)
