Maxidot Question 2005 Octy Low Fuel

Featured Replies

Is it just me or is the low fuel warning at 80-75 miles an insult to the mpg a TDI can do? My one way journey consists of around 95 miles to work and for the orange fuel can to be flashing up for 3/4 of my journey is quite off putting.

Is this adjustable as somewhere like 30 miles would be better,as I have driven the car with zero range at least 25 more miles so there is plenty of fuel left.

Cheers

I think it is more to protect the diesel system from particles being sucked up by the in tank pump when the tank runs low, yes it has a filter fitted and there is a filter further down the line but diesel fuel is sometimes contaminated with water and grit/sand which in the old days didnt do to much damage to injectors nor pumps but of course that has all changed with the  very tight tolerances on the modern engines I think its wise to keep a good gallon or two in the tank always, just my opinion of course

My two seem to do it more on volume than range. (Scout with MaxiDot, Elegance without). I can do some running around at work, get the light to come on as I get back to the office, then on the way home (nice and steady) the range can increase by 30 and still have the warning.

On my petrol the low-fuel warning pops on at 60 miles estimated fuel remaining. Surprised to hear the diesel starts so high.

It's probably activated by volume of fuel left in the tank. 10 litres in a petrol won't get you as far as in a diesel.

This.  I do town driving with the occasional long motorway jaunt and the range left when the light comes on is quite different depending on which journey I'm doing - must be volume and then the computer estimates the range remaining from recent driving.

Gentlemen, I think the clue is really in the title: it's a low fuel warning, not a low range warning. ;) ;)

Oh I'm sure it is but I can say definitiely that my low-warning appears as my range drops to 60 miles each and every time.

It has never activated at any other point.

It makes the "ding", I see the warning light, I look at Maxidot telling me about the warning and as it flicks back to "Range" it will be at 60 miles - and this is each and every time.

So it would appear that what ever my driving style - through town or a long drive back from Wales (like at the weekend) my low fuel volume always gives me a 60 miles range.
