Foam or Microfibre Applicator Pads

Featured Replies

Trying to decide on which Meguiars applicator pads to get in the Halfords 3 for 2 sale going on at the moment. Either some foam ones or microfibre ones. Is one better than the other, or are they designed for different jobs? I currently have cheap Chinese foam applicators that I use for everything, including applying wax to the paintwork.

I personally don't rate the MF applicator pads; tried them before and not for me.

I work with the foam pads which are decent quality and wash quite well.

....still at the price of £1.40 from China for a 12pk - you cant go wrong!

I use both...

I find that MF applicator pads are far better to use with liquid waxes and sealants because they prevent leakage

I use the sponge ones for hard and soft waxes and sealants

Hope this makes sense....at the end of the day....Its what works best for you

Wouldnt disagree with the above - but the MF app pads dont wash very well nor hold there shape either.

I tend to resort to a folded MF towel if required; and its not like i have any shortage of MF towels!  :giggle:

How many?

I counted 21 the other day and think I may have issues! Am I alone?

Oh - think have a similar number of 20'ish working MF's being used at present.

But in the store cupboard under stairs - i have about 10 x Costco 36pk as backup!

Microfibre applicators are very good for pre- wax cleansers and can be used to give a little more cut in hand polishing, the ones with a finger slot are easier to hold

Foam applicators for me are just that, for applying product, so anything that requires no pressure to apply like a wax or sealant. The dual sided German foam applicators from Sonus or CYC are hard to beat.

Not a halfords option but I really rate the Chemical guys hexlogic hand foam polishing pads also.

Ended up getting both Meguiars Foam and MF pads from Halfords. The foam pads seem good and quite soft. The MF pads are quite big but seem good quality. Will try them out at my next opportunity.

Thought to drop a link on here for some of the best applicators on the market. Marco at nano pro supplies many of the Pro detailers and the applicators get superb reviews.

Prices are going up later this week - so he has posted via another detailing group that orders upto Wednesday hold the current price.

Any OCD guys - free Nano Shampoo sample included too.

Foam and MF packs available or a 50/50 pack on request.

As per usual - i have no affiliation with this company or proprietor...... i simply use the products!!!

The foam applicators are excellent & 10x better than the cheap ones from China. I've not used the MF ones. Thanks for posting.

Forgot to link in the detail on the foam pads.... the dimensions and improvement on the cheap Chinese pads is clear.

No question - the red ones are superb but Marco's applicators are very good and at trade quantities/prices too.

I'm after the MF version for glass work and leather cleaning duties. :)

Not tried the red ones but didn't you say they are like the ones supplied with auto glym hd wax ste?

I do like those pads.

The MF will be great for applying liquid waxes and sealants...they reduce leakage

I've bookmarked the webpage for the future

They are not as rubbery as the AG ones Carl

What are the red ones? Link

Carl - I'll have a full stock of all types by the end of the week! :)

Got loads of the red type already - plenty spare.

Marcos order due in 48hrs normally.

It's one of the eBay links further up Bob... ^^^^
