VRS gearbox oil change but no ecu update?

Featured Replies

Skoda dealership say the only recall is for the oil change - no software update? Is this correct?

They are suppose to check if your soft is up to date during any visit to the dealers for any warranty repairs, insist on it. Ask them to read your soft version from your ECU and ask them to provide you with the latest ECU soft for your car - all in writing

There is no requirement on the dealer to check/update the ECU software for a warranty repair unless required by that repair.

If you can demonstrate you have a problem caused by the ECU, it is treated no differently to any other warranty claim.

The check/update is part of a service.

ive had the update with no oil change, figure that 1 out

It is not a Warranty Repair.

It is a 'Service Campaign' on DQ200 Twin Dry Clutch 7 Speed DSG Gearboxes.  or as is a 'Silent Campaign',  No Recall or contacting Registered Keepers.

Just Dealerships telling some Customers that a 'Field Action' is Required on the car.

& some Receptionists calling and calling it a 'Recall'.

Call Skoda UK Customer Services with your VIN and some are referred to Dealers to check if the Car requires the

'Service Campaign' Field Action.

Thats just how hopless SKODA UK CUSTOMER SERVICES can be.

So no real Information to UK Owners, like Skoda NZ gave.

Just to people on Dealers Computers that come to them.

No mention in the UK in 2014 of checking Mechatronic Control Units, or Replacing,

writing up Service books or Stickers in the Engine Compartment to say,  DSG Oil Changed to Mineral & the Date.

......................

Owners of cars have the right to know what actions are happening to their Property.

If they ask it should be explained and if Requested in Writing the Terms under which a Service Campaign is being done,

then that is for Skoda UK to provide.

If they are not wanting to put anything in Writing because of Possible Legal Actions,

then that is very normal for Skoda UK.

Its what they do with Engine Failures, admit no fault on their part.

Just cover your Expenses if you kick up enough.

it should be , change the oil to mineral, and update the software... my tech said it was a big file... took ages.

I assume mineral oil will have different characteristics to synthetic oil... different operating temps ect , if the software update is to know there is mineral oil in there that could need to trigger warnings ect at different temps and other perameters, it SHOULD be updated.

I specifically asked if there was an update to go with the oil change but noting was showing on their system. They checked on the system as I was standing in front of them but it said nothing about software, just change the oil.

Got it home now and popped the bonnet to remove fit the bluespark box only to find they had forgotten to replace a cap and it was just sitting on the scuttle panel. Put the partnumber in online and the cap turned out to be the gearbox vent cap. A quick Google and found it comes from the gear selector linkage plate. Happy I found it thought!

Is there anything written up in the Service Book, as it having been done?

Was your car in for a Service or just the Service Campaign Field Action on the DSG?

Nope, nothing in the service book.

It was in for its mot but I rang the week before asking about the gearbox oil change and they said they'd do it at when I booked it in for its mot.

This was all I got was a print out saying what they'd done with date and milage and my signature.

It says "carried out recall 34f7 gear boxs oil chauge"

Letter for letter too.....gives you confidence

Have a look @ the Thread i bumped on 'Service Campaign DQ200 DSG',

post #22 by Th3Grinch.  that is the Service Part Numbers & what is to be done.

If they do a software update will it overwrite any remaps or is it just to update the DSG software? I called up the deal today that I purchased the car from only last month and they confirmed that it needed the oil changing, not sure why they didn't do it before I brought it though.

It is a DSG Softwear Update.

EDIT,

If there is a trace of a Remap like a Stage 1 on the cars ECU,

that can Invalidate the Skoda Warranty on your Engine or an Extended Warranty.

If you were ever to need to make a Warranty Claim.

It might be there before you bought the car, but you have to point out if it is a Skoda Approved Used Car,

that they sell the Cars and do not Check or reset to Factory Settings,

so hardly your fault.
