Poorly Rapid

Featured Replies

SWIMBO's Rapid went into limp mode this afternoon after the traction control light came on for no reason - not what you want or expect in a car will 2K on the clock.

However have to say that Skoda Assist were first class and had a technician out in 45 minutes.  Due to rural location and poor phone signal he struggled to get a diagnosis with his computer but eventually suspected a fault with the ABS system and Rapid towed of to the doctors - wish for  a full and speedy recovery!

Ouch, hope everything's resolved in a timely manner for you - have you been given a rough idea of how long it'll be away?

No word yet, could really expect the recovery driver to comment but will phone the dealer in the morning. We were offered a car but can manage without for a few days so declined for now.

Skoda assist via the AA seems to work well.

I am a seasoned user :(

Injectors replaced at 1200 miles and limp mode due to G31 sensor fault 3 weeks ago at 10k.

Car now has engine management light on again............

I thought skoda assist was RAC?

I thought skoda assist was RAC?

That was my understanding as well, never had to use them yet though and I'm hoping it stays that way!

I thought skoda assist was RAC?

They were up until recently, now the AA.

had a Octavia mk1 for 7 years, roomster for 5 and now 2 years with a fabia GLII, crossing everything never had to use them once

And apart from when I have used a Renault to stop my roomster never failed to get my car home under its own power

Contract moved over to AA only last week.

Rapid Ronnie now home from hospital and fully recovered - faulty throttle pedal replaced - apparently these are "drive by wire" and a faulty potentiometer withing the pedal unit cause the car to go into limp mode.

Never want to have to use assist services but top marks to both Skoda Assist and West End Skoda for first class customer service

Glad Rapid Ronnie is back where he belongs and that the Skoda service was as good as we are led to believe it is!

"Drive by wire" throttle eh?   I wonder what the advantage in that is!

I remember the throttle cable snapping a good few years ago in my company owned Ford Cortina Mk V (every sales rep had one) on Tottenham Court Road in London.   I went into a charity shop, asked for a wire coathanger and put a donation in their tin.   I straightened the coat hanger, snapped off a 6 inch length and bent two loops in the ends with pliers.   I tied the two ends of the throttle cable to the bit of wire, and the "jury rigged" repair got me home (top speed of 60 mph) and to the garage the next morning.

You just can't do that sort of thing with modern "printed circuit board" and "fly-by-wire" cars!

So waht happens if you ring the Skoda Assist number now, are you redirected to the AA or is it actually someone at Skoda (assist) that you go through first?

Skoda Assist answer, VAG Assist van turns up, same people, same technicians.  Technician that attend us said that from his point of view all that had changed was the paperwork and the name on his pay slip.

So there are actually separate vag assist vans? I presumed you'd just get a normal rac/aa van.

Was a VAG assist branded van that attended us. No mention of AA anywhere apart from the paperwork that is headed "Volkswagen group roadside assistance in partnership with the AA)

Both mine were normal AA vans.  The phone number / paperwork was all VW.
