Big mistake.

You get what you pay for, and if he is happy tottling along in Hyundai Accent then so be it. But as a head of one of the largest automobile corporations in the world, he really shouldn't talk so much. Different cars, different market segment. An Audi will never be like a Merc or a BMW, but they are still good cars and really are ahead of VW or any other brand under the VW name.

....maybe TopGear should get him on to drive in the 'Star in a reasonably priced car.' ?

You do pay for what you get but it must also be said, cars makers only charge what they do because customers will pay for their products.

Mercs are anywhere near as well built as theey used to be and are definately over priced.

Would say Audi are arguebly better built than Merc and on par with BMW but Audi interiors are so much better...new 5 series interior although well set out is no where are stylish as an Audi A6.

Of course BMWs drive better.

Audi , Merc and BMW are all compete against each other although people's perception whould have them ranked in a certain order of prestige...ie. Merc, BMW, Audi.

IMHO

I think the problem is that Mercs asr just as good as they have always been, but the competition is now so much better than it was.

10 years ago a new car was expected to have faults. Now they are expected to be perfect. The competition have managed this but Merc haven't. :thumbdwn:

There's a bit about Pischetsrieder's statement in Autocar.

They say that what he was trying to get across, was that upmarket 'premium' brands need to offer 'better-differentiated' products from their main-stream siblings.

Why pay

My uncle swapped his SAAB 9-3 for a Brand new 3 series and he is well gutted. He says it is the biggest overpriced heap he's ever owned!! He generally gets a new car at least once a year. I would have an Audi over a Merc or BMW I love the shape of them.
