The best way is a dedicated wax remover like Car Pro Eraser and Detox Shampoo like Farecla

BUT

Cheapest way is a wash with fairy liquid/waxless car shampoo and a spray with APC ...rinsed off and then a light wipe with IPA

That should see it off ok...If not a cleaner polish will prepare the paint surface well enough

For those nervous of using Fairy Liquid...No need to be...just don't use it more than twice a year

But want to wait till I have my machine polisher and get some polish on it first.

 

My process will be a fairly simple detail:

 

Wash with washing up liquid, micro fibre mit.

Dry off with towel

Apply meguires polish (1st out of 2 step system) with machine polisher

Poorboys black hole with machine polisher

Poorboys EX-P with machine polisher

 

Also rain-ex the windows somewhere in that process and stick some tyre stuff on (think it's meguires I've got).

 

Will also give the exhaust a going over with some metal polish.

Make sure you let each product cure before applying the next, or you'll remove it

Interested to see how you find EX-P sealant on the DA.....

 

I have been using Britemax Extreme Elements on the DA with reasonable success.

I wasnt looking for advantages per say; more just the overall user experience from Phil.

 

I found the Britemax sealant a little bit cloggy on the finishing pad, wondered how EX-P might compare....

So for Phil's benefit - just watch how you prepare and load up the pad with EX-P, in my experience.

Phil, im going to do a similiar thing but including a claybar process and de-ironise too

Will make sure I leave each layer to cure then.

 

Only applying it with the machine for ease of use. Will see how it goes.

 

Oh and clay bar... can't be bothered with that! lol

What does "leave it to cure" mean exactly? Apply, buff then leave it for 2 hours? Or apply, leave it for 2 hours then buff?

To harden is to cure

If you don't allow this, the next coat may remove it or mix with it and not add a layer

So does curing happen before or after buffing?

It will haze...at which point you buff off

It will then harden invisibly.....faster in warm weather

So, apply the glaze, leave it 5 mins or so to haze, buff off and then leave for a few hours?

I/2 hour to an hour will be sufficient this time of year for Blackhole ...or just leave overnight and add to it in the morning

Oh and the polisher I used was just a Halfords 240v one.

 

It's actually pretty good for £35 tbh.

 

I didn't have the budget or desire to spend mega buck on a proper one but this suits my needs.

 

It even got most of the surface swirl type marks out.

Are those risky in the wrong hands (not being dual action)

 

Could an idiot like me 'burn' (i think is the phrase) the lacquer / paintwork by remaining on the same area too long?

Yes..It oscillates but has no power to remove swirls effectively unlike a pucker DA Polisher

Black hole has fillers so. they will come back eventually

Nice results with the Halford's buffer there Phil - top jab mate.

 

Used one of thesebuffers with black hole many times on my mates cars before i upgraded to a DA then subsequently the rotary.

 

As Chris says - something to do at regular intervals; but seems you have it well sealed in with EX-P 

 

...as my mate only detailed his car to this extent once a year - we topped all the above with Collinite 476; which gave great long term protection for many months
