Fitting a turbo back exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Going to be daft question time, but is there anything I need to look out for when fitting an aftermarket turbo back exhaust? any issues like stubborn bolts etc? or is it relatively easy?

Thanks!

Ben

Are you removing a standard system?

If so you need to cut it off, as it is one piece from dp back and runs above the rear beam :)

One of the bolts on the down pipe is a pain in the arse!

Is that just generally awkwardness of getting to it by any chance? :')

So there's no way to remove it by like two sections? I hoped there was like a down pipe then the other section bolted/sleeved. Ah well if not.

If you remove the air box. You can then get socket and extention bar onto the down pipe flange. More secure than a spanner and can get a good swing.

The one bolt you cant get with a socket you can get easy enough form underneath

be careful on down pipe nuts. Sometimes 12mm and sometimes 13. So dont round them off haha

Yeah as I put dp back is one piece, so exhaust comes off dp, but you can't then drop exhaust off car due to it going above rear beam :)

Ah okay, good to know now as I've not got round to looking underneath yet. :)

As mentioned above you need to make a cut in the system to remove it, mine was cut near where it goes over the rear beam.

Yeah, will be where I cut mine once I get around to it. :)

Right all done with the turbo back, it wasn't too bad doing it. Just wish I had a ramp or a 2 pillar to do it on instead!

One difficulty I had is with the new exhaust system being bigger the downpipe was a complete arse to get tight. Two of the studs/nuts were easy but one seemed nearly impossible to tighten as you can't use a socket on it, couldn't get a ring from the spanner on it, had to use stubby one that was on the open end instead.

Other than that, the new noise. It's fine inside the car, gave it a little poke while having a window open and hearing the roar and the turbo, it was pleasant.

Now I just need to remap it!
