Loss of power with epc warning light on

Featured Replies

Was pulling out of my street the other day and suddenly my car had reduce power and the epc light showed up on dash. After about 10 seconds it cleared it self and have had no trouble since.

Took it my dealers yesterday for them to plug into the computer and I got the typical response, Computer said no lol. Was told to keep a eye on it and of it happens again they will have keep it in.

This is my cars 2nd engine and has just done 1000 mile. Ain't used any oil yet so hoping it nothing major.

Has anyone else had this happen? It the 1st time I've seen any warning lights since owning the car.

Did you get the engine changed at skoda stoke ?.

Could be a one of the sensors on the blink. When they put new motor in ancillaries stay the same and are reconnected so they are prone to damage from excellent technicians.

Yes, I agree jabo, or the loom in the bay somewhere. It's usually not too hard to find these things in most cases but does require someone to take a look, not just plug it into a computer. From the techs point of view it's unfortunately quite easy for an oversight to occur if the utmost care is not used when removing and replacing the engine unit. Mostly these things are trouble free but not always.

Those automotive connectors are crap! supposedly rugged build but spindly wires stick out of them without any protection since insulation was stripped and stiffening at the connector ever installed. To break a wire like that is all too easy - my blooming £35 lawmover has better electrical connections!

Yes, that's exactly the problem most times. Sounds like we have both been there a time or two. Mind you, it could be as simple as a spark plug with a dodgy lead or connector. Good luck Andy2509. Let us know how you get on.

You are going to have to check that the new engine  (Remanufactured) actually did get 4 new plugs fitted,

because another member has been told that they will not get new plugs with the Replacement engine installation.

As to the EPC light showing,

I have driven Demonstrators from dealers that had been left sitting charging the battery after having been started from sitting for days or weeks on the forecourt, (using almost certainly dealer/salespeople filled 95 ron petrol)

& the light showed as i drove away.

Then that was it, there was no light again.

(This was the EPC light, not the Control System for the Exhaust light.),  But one or the other or both can show with a Misfire.

These Misfire do not show as a Code, because there are not enough in a Cycle.

Sorry it took me a while to reply back been a bit tied up.

the epc warning light has not shown up since so could be one of the sensors on the blink as jabo suggested.

When it went in for the engine change i was told by SUK and my dealer there would be new spark plugs fitted in the engine. Before the engine was fitted i was shown by my dealer my engine, they also showed me the new spark plugs that were sitting in the engine when it was on the pallet in the storage room. Then again there nothing stopping my dealer keeping the new ones and putting my old back in as i would never know, suppose it just down to trusting my dealer.

Cheers,  i knew the New Plugs are in, or should be.

The member this week being told by a Dealership he would only get new parts like Plugs, where they are Broken,

was dealing with one without a clue, or the type that might whip out plugs for selling to someone else, or the person getting the new (Remanufactured) engine.

Lets hope all is well now.

But send an Email to the Service Department & the Service Manager to let them know you had the Light show.

& forward to Skoda UK Customer Services with your Case Number, then you know it is logged.

All has been logged at dealers and told if it happens again it has got go straight back.

Dan Wilson is aware of it and has also asked me to inform him straight away if it happens again as he will look into it.

Fingers crossed it just a glitch as it nice to have a engine where after a thousand mile I still have not had to put any oil in.

Since they never gave you a New Cat,

hopefully that has had a good proper cooking now

& any Oil residue from the old oil burner is all gone, & the Exhaust system is all well.

The engine sitting running in the Workshop gets a bit of a build up in the Exhaust System and can cause the Light to flash.

I like to see a big blast of soot exiting the Tail Pipe when you really open it up after its pottered about for a while.

Have fun with it now.

Plan on having some fun with it now George and hopefully plenty of trouble free miles then.

I manged to get a full engine valet from dealer after complaining about the state of the engine bay. Was told they didn't steam clean engine as with all the problems with the engines they didn't want knock anything which I'm glad they didn't. At least someone was using a bit of common sense for a change lol
