How a remap affects insurance

Featured Replies

After considering a remap and nearly going ahead, i have been almost completely put off after looking at how it puts my insurance up by about £180! Anyone know a way of getting around this??

Have you tried talking to the insurance sponsors on here? I was getting quotes of over £100 more on the Yeti, for a stage 1 (20% increase in HP) but eventually got insurance £2 (with Adrian Flux) under my previous provider's renewal offer (Admiral), and less than I paid last year.

The comparison sites - at least confused.com - do allow you to indicate you have mods and then fill in what they are. It's not precise, but at least it lets you know who the remap-friendly insurers are. LV & Diamond gave me quotes around the £330 mark but some wanted over £10K! Once you have some quotes you can talk to the sponsors, as they seem to have some bargaining ability.

If you're part way through your policy you need to see how much the cancellation fee affects things - I cancelled my cover (Hastings, I think) on my Octy when getting the Yeti, as they wanted much more than cancellation + a new policy elsewhere.

Ahh brilliant thanks, never thought of them!! my renewal, also with admiral, is due in a fortnight so i'm weighing up the options! They only want around £50 more than the renewal price, but when i untick the remap 'modification' on confused.com, i get different quotes that around £200 less!

Just watch with Admiral if you do go elsewhere, in case they have auto-renew turned on. I just had a phone call from them this week thanking me for renewing with them! Cancelled now, but I wouldn't have spotted it till the credit card bill came through.

By all means PM me if you'd like a quote - I'm sure we can help!

Cheers
