Any mods that can be done to give much better lighting when reversing

use LED but don't buy cheap junk off ebay or you will end up buying twice

The Cree (projector style) LED’s seem to be the best at the moment

I run a reversing camera on mine, and I find my bright LED license plate lights help alot when reversing at night. When I start moving backwards at night, a quick glance at the Columbus' screen will show me a clear view of the surface directely behind the car, well lit by the license plate lights. It has helped me see a low bollard that I would never have spotted without the camera. The LED license plate lights came from eBay, they are the complete unit with resistors, each side has 3 rows of 8 LEDs, 24 a side, 48 total. Very VERY bright.

 

So if you worry about rear visibility at night / low light conditions, maybe think about fitting a rearview camera. THIS is the exact kit I fitted, plugs right into the Columbus, running the wire towards the back is a right pain though, and, ofcourse, you need to use a Dremel or something similar to cut a hole between a license plate light and the boot handle, for the camera. But I consider it one of my better mods!

what year was the FL, and are they fitted to them all from that year, and if some where available would it be a straight swap???

FL is 2013 onwards, not all 2013 will have them. Fitting is a straight swap if you go the Superskoda route;

No word on availability though...and the reversing light is still a normal bulb, only the 3 outer lines are LED...

They are for the combi/estate, the OP has a twindoor.

 

The FL twindoor rear LED clusters are not a straight swap on the pre-FL Superb.

 

These are the FL rear light clusters with LED reverse lights...

 

 

You can get LED rear clusters for the pre-FL twindoor but only the brake and tailight functions are LED. Indicators and reverse lights are normal incandescent bulbs...
