Hi all asked similar qestion before 2lt se+ superb hatch  tdi manual  2012     19 thousand miles will not run under 50 miles an hour in 6 gear on flat straight road  50 or just below i have to drop gear to 5th spend more time in 5th on a roads  where i live starts to judder just at about 50in 6 gearis this about right have to boot it to 1500revs to change back up and keep it over 50to stop in 6th gear .I am starting to think it is under powered for the size of the car hard work on a b roads .

 

Thanks for any help if any one has same car could they tell me what speed in what gears they can go at at what revs.

Sounds like a dodgy DMF to me, should be able to manage 30 in 6th as long as you aren't acceleration hard.

What ps is it? 110, 140 or 170? The CRs don't have as much low down torque as the earlier PD engines and my vRS is far happier in 5th at 50 too, though the gearing might be different on yours the same general principles will apply. Generally I'm in 3rd at 30, 4th at 40 and 5th at 50 and 6th over 60. It will pull a higher gear when going downhill or just on a light throttle but generally is happier in the gears mentioned above. Mine doesn't judder though. I read some time ago on this forum that to help the longevity of tne dmf you need to avoid giving it big doses of throttle below about 1500 rpm and that you should start and stop the engine in neutral with the clutch depressed on a manual-I don't know if that is correct but I do it anyway as it won't do any harm.
