Dam brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all

It's been a while since I've been on as I've been away working abroad for about a year, just after a little advice.

My brother was looking after my car while I was away, well I say looking after very loosely.

I had to put new calipers on the front and they have been fine for a few days but I took the wife for a drive today and the front brakes started playing funny buggers, they seemed to seize up, left one mainly and to the point where they were causing the car to "drag" but after stoping for a while they will free off and will be fine until brakes are used again.

Could this be the carriers slide pins causing a problem as the carriers and pins are the original ones on the car.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks muchly

I would strip off front brakes recheck everything and generously grease the sliders and pistons in RED RUBBER GREASE (From eBay) this will keep parts free moving and will not swell the dust boots

Once done get it along to your local MOT station and ask em to run a brake test to test efficiency on each side

I also got a Set of callipers and carriers as I've just fitted my 4 pots..,

But u sed that you just fitted yours... So you shudnt need another calliper hopefully

I reli reckon that red rubber grease will work wonders I've used it many times and now use it on brake changes as part of routine maintenance... It's only a couple of quid well worth a go before looking at more pricier options

Went all the way in the end and have ordered new carriers for the front in the hope that this will cure it

Thanks for the advice though, will let you all know if I get it cured

Ok so new calipers and carriers fitted, problems still there!! Brake pedal goes solid, front brakes seize on to the point where the car drags like f**k but if you stop and pump the brake pedal they come free. Completely stumped here and rather annoyed, think it might be time for a change

Sounds like a master cylinder issue to me.

See that's what I didn't want to hear
