vrs 2.0 fsi 'what other engine probs'

Featured Replies

Right we've all heard about tensioners failing, so much so after looking for a f/l vrs I changed direction looking at audi b8 2.0t fsi but these seem to suffer really high oil usage in which audi if under warranty will change pistons, now surely these are same engines as is golf gti tsi but why do skoda seem to suffer more tensioner probs, got to a stage im stuck what car to get, id have a vrs cr but my mileage has halved and now ill only be doing 6miles each way in traffic which wont help dpf

there are several differences between the 2.0 fsi/tsi engine as used in the golf/octavia and the audi so they are not directly comparable.  i'm not aware of any oil issues as you mention on octavias.

btw - the tensioner thing is pretty rare and in the majority of cases its been either fixed foc under warranty or where warranty has expired skoda has made a significant goodwill contribution.  if you're really worried you could always just budget to put the latest revision on to whatever car you buy, or get a warranty.   generally, if you google looking for problems you're going to find some :)    personally i would not have a diesel if you're doing low miles.

hth.

The audis have the same problems as well. In fact, also the TFSI audi engines were chain driven and they used to snap!

You can always get the octy tfsi (pre fl), pretty bullet-proof engine (just change the cam follower every once in a while and you're golden)

Cheers guys just presumed the b8 fsi golf gti fsi and f/l vrs all used same 200bhp engine

Right we've all heard about tensioners failing, so much

I'd say this is certainly not a reason to look at a vehicle with this engine. When you consider just how many units are "in the wild" the number of failures will be an incredibly small amount, certainly lower than a single percent. Those who have experienced issues will be vocal, and more so because of the potential cost involved with the failure, however the many, many, many more people who have not had an issue will not have tended to post about how they haven't had an issue.

Appreciate that mate but it is a problem albeit poss small numbers but there will also be incidents of failures not noted , its an inherent problem throughout vag range, esp golf gti tsi, unfortunately my budget wont stretch to a 2012 model vrs which has latest revision so I feel it may be a case of buying a 2010 then getting new tensioner fitted
