Air con problem

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone advise on this? I have a 1.6 fsi elegance with climatronic.

Took my car to ATS to get the air con regassed. All worked well for about 2 weeks now it's doesn't. The fan comes on when I activate it and I get a gurgling/bubbling noise behind the centre vents and it's stopped blowing cold. I pulled the centre vents out and checked both the sensors were plugged in securely which they are, but the noise seems to be coming from inside the vent/heater box.

I took the car back to ATS yesterday and they checked it over and said that they've checked the system and there are no leaks and they've had a look round with their UV light and cant physically see any leaks but everything is working as it should and they have no idea why it's not working.

I plugged VCDS into it and have no fault codes showing?

Any ideas what could be wrong? It blows warmish air instead of cold. The gurgling noise stops if I turn it to Econ mode. I'm tempted to take it elsewhere to get checked again but after having 2 tyres and air con gas done I can't afford it for another few weeks.

*sorry eds this should be in octavia 2**

Just had the same on my wife's 2002 Ibiza FR which was solved by our Seat dealer regassing the system.

So just regassing the system again worked?

Yes it wasn't blowing cold air & made a gurgling sound from behind the dash, which only happened when the AC was on.

Ok cool. I'll try and get it regassed again at another garage and see what happens.

Many moons ago, my ac stopped working because it had lost the refrigerant. I took my car to an auto ac specialist and the first thing he did was a pressure check. Because the pressure was low ( virtually none existent) it was highly likely that there was a leak somewhere. He then re filled the system with refrigerant and a dye because of the high possibility of a leak. I should say at this point that the car wasn't very old and a complete loss of refrigerant was unusual. The ac then worked brilliant for a couple of days and then stopped again. It was clear to see without a UV light where the leak was because it was a bad leak. Needless to say, The guy double checked it with a UV light and confirmed where the leak was. What I am getting at here is did ATS use a dye when you first had your system topped up? It's pointless using a UV light if no dye was put in when it was topped up. The guy I used also said that if the refrigerant leaked, I wouldn't have to pay for a top up if there was a leak and he carried out the repair work. The filter drier receiver was damaged and that in itself is a straight forward job (as I have done it myself since after a compressor failure and I had to replace both). The bill ended up being a bit more than I bargained for because my car had been involved in a front end shunt within it's first 18 months of it's life. All in all, the bill was reasonable (less than £200) and the guy straightened out all the bent steelwork too. It may be worth speaking to an auto ac specialist and get a price etc first. Good luck.
