removing overspray

Featured Replies

Iv done some spraying on my wing. The bits iv sprayed look ok. Nice smooth and shiny. The rest of the wing however has over spray all over it. Feels like sand paper to touch and the wing was gone matte. Iv tried to hand polish it out with mer and g3 wax but this didn't do much at all. I rubbed my clay bar over abit of it which helped a little but not alot. What else can I try?

Tardis will remove fresh paint, if you're careful it could be an idea...

Fresh paint as in wet paint or newly sprayed and dried? Will it damage the paint underneath it?

Rub your clay bar over it lots!!

Ok so took clay to it again. Its got a bit better but in some places I almost came to a complete stop it's that bad lol. I just tried some 1500 grit paper on a small area. It went really hazy looking but lost the over spray. I then polished that part and it completely disappeared. Question now is do I carry on with the grit paper and then polish it all over and hope its ok?

If it was me.... I'd finish it with a rub of 3k then compound it out if you've him that far bud.

Is 1500 abit too aggressive some parts are seriously bad lol. I was trying to blend it in so it didn't stand out and just managed to over spray everywhere. Struggling to find 3k grit.

Found some 2500 on ebay. Iv never used compound before does this have to be used with a machine polisher?

Ideally yeah but will just take a bit more elbow grease by hand. I think a lot of people choose 2k, 2.5k or 3k because they are less aggressive so won't go through a thin layer of clear coat. Also easier to remove with compound. I like to use 3k to be on the safe side ;)

To be fair the compound should easily get rid of overspray by hand on its own IMO

How do I use it and where do I buy it?

Something like meguiars ultimate compound is good, from halfords. Just like you would with polish but with more elbow grease.

Is it aggressive enough? Like I said there's some really bad bits.

A Machine polish and it will be gone

Hard to say with out seeing/ feeling it. I'd love to have a go at it though... Next time you're near lowestoft......

There are a few different methods if you look on YouTube...

Im located in Leicestershire. Iv took the 1500 to it and its got a fair amount off and looks abit better. I really don't think it can get any better tho. Its got primer paint and lacquer over it. Its feeling alot smoother but mid wing where the overspray is its so hazy. I reckon the only way to rid it all is to use something like 800 grit but it will mess it all up. I suppose thats why u go to the body shop to have stuff sprayed lol.
