vRS: No 1st or 2nd gear :(

Featured Replies

As above, i was driving along yesterday on a dual carriageway at 70, came to a stop at roundabout, select first, lifted the clutch to set off and nothing happened :/ Panicked, and tried the other gears and found every gear apart from 1 and 2 still worked so limped away in 3rd and called the AA.

Very strange as there were no noises and everything else worked! Anyone had this problem before or no what it could be?? Thanks

Search on here for gear linkage reset.

Could just be ones moved :)

How's reverse?

When gear linkages go it's normally first and reverse that fail.

yeah reverse is fine!

Failed gearbox is my bet then.

I take it the gear linkage feels fine? Still feels like it's going into first and second but has no drive?

Yeah feels but no drive :( its in the garage at the moment so i'm dreading the call to tell me what it is!

Don't get ripped off for a new gearbox if you need one.

They are around £180 2nd hand IIRC.

I have this problem did anybody know the outcome?

His gearbox had failed, he's since bought a second hand one.
