Loud noise when I went into reverse...without the clutch!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just joined this forum as I have bought a Octavia yesterday. I picked it up, drove an hour home and stopped at the supermarket. Now, as I have been driving a automatic car for the last few months, my head only half worked when I got back into the car. I started up, put it into reverse but forgot to actualy use the clutch :'( The car made a huge clunk/clang...don't know how to describe it really.

I did get going again and got home no problem, reversed into my space and then found it difficult to get it out of reverse...haven't touched it since

Anybody know if I have caused bad damage?

Thanks, Steve.

Probably not. I'd hazard a guess that almost every car on the road today has at some point been thrown into gear by accident. However, if the problem persists then by all means get it checked out.
