New Passat

Featured Replies

but will anyone like it.

Plenty seem to sell but everyone I've ever known that has owned any Passat has always said they didn't like it. Often for no particular reason.

I'm done with new VWs I'm afraid. I loved my B6, it was crushingly able as a family car and mile muncher. Rapid as well in its own right.

However you can't overlook vw having a bmw competitor already, it's called Audi. Are you asking if id pay the same money for a VW as a BMW? Answer is nope. The last Passat cost a pretty penny as it was I shudder to imagine the list price of this.

You would have thought they would have learnt the lesson with the Phaeton..stick at what your good at.

Some nice toys and interior looks quite good. Saloon is not bad, estate's a bit nothingy.

Wait for the Superb3, about 6 months after the Passat; same tech, probably cheaper and hopefully better looking inside and out too (like the current one) :)

It's a saloon, which means it'll have a decent sized boot but no way of accessing it properly.

As above I'll wait for the Superb MkIII and save some money at the same time.

Yep, my B5.5 Passat had a massive boot, so long as you only wanted to carry things that fit through the letterbox rear hatch. I remember carrying a large CRT TV and had to load it in over the folded rear seats.

I think that's the reason I like the idea of it. All the toys I want without the BMW or Audi badge to go with it.

We had a Passat when the octavia was hit my a lorry. Was very impressed by the quality but it was just really dull (1.6 bluemotion diesel) so hoping the bi turbo might be a bit more interesting.

If it's understated has the promise of a really good sleeper.

We shall see. This car will be the wrong side of £30k- possibly even more than that. If you're happy paying that for a 'people's car'  (that certainly won't compete with the dynamics of a 3 series of C Class) then all power to you. As a VW customer of many years i've passed the limit of what I think is appropriate for their products.

Price will be the key but I am liking what I am seeing now. I had a Passy before and it had the most comfortable driving position and seats of any BMW and MERC I driven :). I would not be looking for performnace so 1.6 diesel would do me fine :)

Looks nice to me.

Dad had a passat, it was a nice car, but just a little bland. (Says me, whos got a fabia lol)

I do like the passat CC's though. The new version of that should be nice.

I rather like the look of the new Passat and the twin turbo diesel and 4WD sounds like a nice (allbeit expensive) option. It's based on a stretched MQB platform as used in A3, Golf, Octavia & Leon, so my guess is it could drive very well compared to more "premium" cars like 3 series or C class. Not necessarily better, but not worse either.

Base model weighs 200kgs less than a 316i, so that ought to help, but looks like no petrol models will be coming to the UK, which is a shame as it's offered with a 276hp 4 cylinder (same as Leon Cupra?).

Here's a happy Passat owner!! :)

I must admit the day my Mazda 6 went and the Passat turned up I was gutted, the exterior was so bland compared to the dynamic looking Mazda, interior was classes above though.

Now I properly like it, it looks pretty classy to me but mine is a white Sport with the optional 18s, mainstream SE specs are pretty meh.

The new one isn't a massive step forward from the old one visually, it's all different under the skin though using the MQB platform and engines.

The version with the hybrid drivetrain from the GTE would be a good choice for company car drivers.

to be hopes they put the 2.0 bi tdi in the superb and with 237bhp it will definatly shift
