Hi!

 

I had been thinking to swap from 5 speed gearbox to 6 speed for a while, since its quite noisy at 3k rpm on highway ;\

 

I have read a lot about it, almost bought a VRS 6 speed FJW code gearbox, but its just been sold before i could buy it...

 

Now i have the chance to get an Audi A3 (8L) 6 speed gear (1.9 PDTDI 131PS) for cheap.

 

Anyone could help me please if it would fit? I know i have to get a lot of things included starter, driveshafts , clutch flywheel etc. which is no problem to buy. But im still a bit confused... Fabia/Polo/ibiza has same engine/gear, but i dont know much about A3. A3 is same as Golf/Bora/Leon?

Do you think it will fit?

Actually this would be good for me, but the 5th gear is quite short for me :S

Here to, I'm forever changing gear due to silly short ratios. A long 5 speed box suits diesels much better.

Talk/PM to tech1e, he might have a betetr list.

 

ISTR that the LHS console is different on the VRS to clear the gearbox.

Dont think it will work matey. The fabia uses a specific O2R gearbox for space constraints I belive. You can do it with vrs parts. The A3 is golf leon platform

you'll need to swap the driveshafts and possibly the hubs IIRC. I asked the same question back in 2011 but I can't find the topic now, it's disappeared into the archives somewhere I suspect :wonder:

Hubs are the same..im converting mine atm.. also the subframe is the same.. i remember seeing on that old thread someone saying the subframes are different but they are not..they all have an indent on the pass side for added room fir the 6 speed

Im doing a VRS 6 speed conversion.. i broke a fabia vrs and im using everything from that.. an a3 gearbox will not fit m8.

Needs to be from a fabia vrs/ ibiza FR 130 tdi or 160 cupra or a 9n polo GT or 9n3 polo 130 tdi.

Just to throw a spanner in the works here; have you considered the 5 speed box from the Bluemotion Polo? I have no idea if it'll fit but it's something that's been done on the Audi A2 1.4TDI
