Dedicated towbar electrics & CAN

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of wiring up a towbar with a dedicated 7-pin wiring kit to a pre-FL Ocatvia estate.

Simple question: can I tap the CAN wires for the towbar into the orange CAN wires leading to the rear light cluster?

Or do I have to run them close to the CAN Gateway as recommended for fitting the parking sensors?

Doing it into the boot space would be so much easier, but would it still work OK?

if you have the correct can wires in the boot area, then it will be fine

Thanks Eddie.

IIRC they were the orange twisted pair in the boot. Same as I tapped in to for the parking sensors (but they were at the CAN Gateway end).

can wiring should be orange/green & orange/brown for the towbar

your optical pdc would be on drive can orange/black & orange/brown

Glad I checked as I thought there was only one orange twisted pair (black/brown)!

I'll double check the colours of the twisted pair in the boot.

You have the older non-optical pdc though dont you kb (on address 76 rather than 10)? If so that uses the correct orange/green orange/brown combination that Eddie mentions above...
