1.6 greenline caravan, whats the best

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Yeti1.6 Greenline which I know has won awards for pulling caravans but think we would all benefit from knowing what caravans you have and your experience in pulling them.

Would love a caravan but scared my car isn't powerful enough :(

Yeah!

And tell us how much each one weighs.

Would that not put the vehicle outside the 119 g/km emissions and mean having to send off an additional £75 to HMG :nerd:

Just look at the kerbweight of your car - I think it is about 1410kg and if you are new to caravanning try to keep the maximum weight of the caravan below 85% of 1410kg. This gives about 1200kg. The 85% is only advice but good advice I think. A good example of a suitable caravan would be a Lunar Quasar 462 (2 berth) - the current model has a MTPLM of 1180kg. This stands for Maximum Technically Permissable Laden Mass.

If you wanted a caravan with say 4 berth your choice is a little restricted. The Yeti is an excellent towcar - its 'wheel at each corner' construction lends it good stability.

Your car is definitely powerful enough if you choose the right caravan.

No. The VED rates are based on the manufacturers figures at the time of manufacture. What you do to the car after it has been registered has no effect on the taxation class. Exactly why people buy and fit the spare wheel assembly after they have bought the car, and why BossFox's Yeti Rocket is still in the same tax class.

To the OP,

At the bottom of the drivers B post is a plate with all the weights on, so that will give you the max weight of a caravan you can tow. One question though, when did you pass your driving test, as that "may" affect any answer?

EDIT.

I think RK's figures are probably correct.
