18" Gemini's or 19" Xtreme's

Featured Replies

I have Just placed an order for a Octavia VRS hatch in race blue . I was going to spec 19" Xtreme's then I saw they were fitted with 225/35 .... I was concerned about the harsh ride and possible damage to the wheels with pot-holes , plus you cannot have a space saver . So I would like to know could you fit 225/40 tyres on them ?????

Thanx for any help ....

Why can't you have a space saver? Surely the brakes are the same for clearance and the overall diameter is the same due to the lower profile tyres?

A change from 225/35 R19 to 225/40 R19 will increase the rolling circumference of your wheels from 1930.49mm to 1998.35mm (+67.86mm or 3.52%) and mean that when your speedometer says you're doing 70mph, you're actually doing 72.46mph. The rule of thumb is to keep within 3% difference.

To maintain your rolling circumference and ensure your speedometer's accuracy, you would need to change to 195/40 R19, which is a size that's still suitable for the 7.5J rim, but leaves you with less rubber on the road, a degree of 'tyre stretch' (Dub style)… and with a lot lot less protection for your rims!

Thank you for your reply Nookiebear, I will keep to the 18" Gemini's then ...

Cheers....

I've ordered a space saver with my 19" XTremes

another reason to go for the 18" Geminis is the 19" extremes are too big + look bloody awful. They dont suit the bodystyle and the look of the Octy .... in my opinion of course :notme:

Also depends on what sort of roads you're using, I had 19s on my Rocco and went through three tyres very quickly and one dented rim but maybe I was just unlucky.

I have ordered the 19's for my new VRS and a spare wheel.

I have the Xtremes on mine, I have done 10,000 miles with them on and no complaints as of yet, yes road noise maybe slightly more but the radio covers thats up so doesnt bother me at all. I had my car lowered also and still think it rides great
