Has anyone noticed the ashtray light coming through the little holes in the leather gear stick gater on a Fabia VRS? I just got my car back yesterday to have the new gear cables fitted and when driving at night it is so noticable I am sure it wasn't like that before. I think my car is trying to point out that it hasn't been put back together properly.

I think there's a sensor/switch that turns the light off when the ashtray is closed properly. Maybe that bit hasn't been re-fitted correctly so the ashtray is shut, the light is still on and shining through the holes.:confused:

It is as if there should be a blanking plate behind the light so that it doesn't "bleed" through to under the gear stick. I am often opening the ashtray to get coins etc and obviously looking down and have never noticed the lights coming through the holes...

I can't say I've ever noticed it on mine. Have a word with the dealer and see what they say. Whilst you're there, have a look at another car and see if it does the same...

NOPE, not on mine, go see the dealer, hasn't fitted it back properly.

Goes on and off with headlights, no sensor buy looks of things.

The gaiter is fixed to a plastic surround which clips into the centre console. Sounds like it wasn't refitted properly. There are two locating lugs on the gaiter surround which fit into holes at the front of the gear lever aperture, and two at the handbrake end; nothing at the sides. If the leather prevents the gaiter surround from clipping back into place, run a credit card or some similar thin plastic between the leather and the centre console as you press the gaiter surround back into place. Should be a snug fit.

Mine has a big piece of spong that surrounds the gearstick just under the plastic surround. This must blank the light off.
