Leaking power steering rack

Featured Replies

Hello,

While sorting out another issue (console bushes) we found power steering fluid had started to leak from the passenger side gaiter. I've drained the fluid from the gaiter and topped up the reservoir (who ever designed this car needs to be shot!). If you are unaware, the reservoir is under the battery, which needs the airbox taken out first!

So the reservoir was topped up with a fluid with built in sealent. However I'm not counting this as resolved by any means. If anything I've just bought some more time.

Does anyone know how much a new rack and fitting would be? Ideally around the manchester area.

I was quoted around the £300 mark IIRC.

was that for a new unit or re-con?

Euro Car Parts do recon racks for a decent price with your old one as an exchange.  Budget 3 hours labour (mine took 4).

(P.s.  The popular auction site has someone doing recons for around the £140 mark but can't comment if they're any good or not)
