Choking when cold

Featured Replies

Hiya guys,

i´m having some problems with my vRS these days ... not anything serious, but seriously frustrating in the morning. When cold, he chokes, farts, or whatever I could call it.
Has problems running, no extra noises, but the boost meter jumps around with it, but this only happens in the morning. No smoke coming from the exhaust, does not move the oil at all, or water, just sounds like he´s not wanting to get up and go. He almost stalls when I start driving, hickuping and etc, and after just 10 meters he´s all fine. No problem. Might do again if only a short drive to begin with (within 1-3km) but not as much. Seems to need to warm up and then ready to go.

The main thing bothering my soul about this is the boos meter (gauge) jumping around. At first I thought it was the turbo giving up or starting to .. but now i´m not sure. Anyone had this happen? I´m too curious to wait until monday (when everything opens).

Thanks in advance!

Only guessing but I would look at perished hoses and coolant sensors.....

+1 for Coolant temp sensor.

Have you ever cleaned your throttle body? mine used to feel like it was going to stall when cold, cleaned that and it's been fine ever since

Had the engine light come on, had it read and the result was "engine cooling system" .. so I got the thermostat replaced (had noticed changes in the heat gauge, never up in the warmer zone, rather getting colder once in a while). Didnt change a thing .. perhaps this is my coolant temp sensor. But no I have never cleaned the throttle body, i´m new in the "modern" engine section, i´m only used to the old v8´s. I should probably use my summer leave and read up on those.

Thank you very much you guys!
