Best care plan for a brand new car

Featured Replies

I've always been an "auto car wash once a month and forget it" kind of guy but I'm so pleased with the new Octavia that thought I'd try to improve my habits somewhat.

A lot of the guides I'm reading are talking about previously waxed or polished cars, etc. Are these applicable to a brand new one, ie do they come with any kind of wax/polish applied or is it just bare paintwork?

Just looking for the best way forward really; I'm not particularly car proud but want to do the basics correctly; not looking for a work of art :notme:

Should add that although it's only 3 weeks old it's just been on a weeks' holiday and is looking a little dusty right now - also the dealer was meant to apply Supaguard before I picked it up, but when I told him I couldn't see any evidence of it, he's told me to bring it in for a check or re-application if needed.

There is so much to tell you...LOL

However...if you read this it will be all you need to know

You said the dealer applied Supaguard?

It should include a pack/bag of goodies with conserver and the like

If it doesnt..they havent applied it and you have been ripped off

If they have, then use the conserver until it runs out (Just apply it at the rinse stage)..but dont use the sponge..Throw that away

Normally, your car will be "bare"...nothing applied (and many dealers' valeters don't do much of a job of the basics anyway!). However, you've opted for Supagard? I just know what many on here will say to that....don't bother, not worth it, waste of time. And I would agree. For decent results, it needs to be properly and carefully prepared and applied and valeters don't have the time/inclination. And,even if done properly, it's debatable whether it's worth it anyway....IMO.

Guess I'll give it a quick rinse for now and then back to the dealer to let him assess. No Supagard pack was suppied, he told me they don't do that. Personally I don't think it's been applied, if you spill water on the seat it just soaks in.

He's doing it as a freeby but I still want it done right.

Sorry......You're being lied to

Several years ago I did have Supagard (as a freebie to clinch the deal) on a dark metallic blue Fabia Mk1. It was obvious that it had been done and (as Chris has said) there was a pack of products left in the car...so, I also think your being conned.

How could you tell? I actually phoned Supaguard and they said externally it could be hard to tell and internally, depending on the weave of the seat fabric, then yes some water may soak in rather than run off.

Not much help, though they did say there should definitely be paperwork - didn't mention and additional pack...

Well, there were small amounts of the product in seams, around lights, around windscreen seal etc and similar tell-tale signs inside; there was the "customer pack" inside the car, paperwork for the warranty and a sticker at the top of the windscreen telling the world and his wife that it had been done. Also, water beaded very well off paintwork for several months.

Great - what about interior, does water bead off the seats? I'm sure I've been sold a pup...

To be honest...I can't remember too much about the interior, although there was the odd white fingerprint on the dark upholstery. (It was several years ago and I no longer have the Fabia).

We never ever ate or drank inside the car (yes, I know!) so didn't really test the treatment's effectiveness. However, the interior was unmarked and new-looking when sold.

From what you've said....I don't think any thing has been done to your car TBH.
