CR - oil use

Did a search ^ but couldn't find an answer.

Got a new job in January and have been doing 250 miles a week in my vRS. I've kept an eye on my oil level and had to top up more regularly than I used to - I put this down to the weekly motorway stuff.  Seems to go between the max mark and above the min mark over about 6 weeks and I recently put in about a litre. Normal or not ?  It's a DSG that's hurtling towards 30k if that's relevant and I use it during the usual peak time travel window ie stop start quick blast, stop start blast etc...

TIA

I'm on my second 1-6 CR, different engine I know, but my first was a manual and I did over 80k on variable servicing and I doubt that I used more than a litre of top up oil during the time I owned the car. My current 1.6 CR is DSG and it's coming up to 55k. I might have used 1/2 a litre in top up on this one so far.

I check the oil level every week and I'm doing around 30k a year, with lots of motorway miles.

Interesting...

My manual 2.0 CR vrs in 22k miles, probably 8k on motorway rest has been A & B roads, has had about 150ml of top up oil so don't think the engine is a drinker.

I always get the oil temp to 50deg before giving it any sort of welly up to then rarely take it above 2500rpm, like to make sure its all warmed up first :)

If i cud spel it write, wor 1.6TDI uses an almost infitesimal amount of oil.

Might, just might, manage from the high to the low mark over the 18,600 mile service intervals.

Xcept i put a dreedle in when about 1/2 way down.

At the current rate of consumption the 1.0 litre top-up bottle is going to last the estimated/predicted 250,000 life of the car!

cheers

I was really worried at the regularity I had to check/top up oil levels in my 56 plate vrs when first bought it. I thought i had bought a real load of trouble but 3 years on at 10K per annum appears to be the norm! There is no leak and am not burning oil. I always ensure there is a litre of oil in the car at all times.

Mine was using a litre every 10K.

Was on fixed servicing for the 1st 40K, went to variable and check the oil every 5K.

From 40 to 45 it used 1/2 a litre, from 45 to 50 & 50 to 55 used nothing.

Mine never uses a drop as far as I can tell, but its low mileage as I only do 6k a year in it.

Mines done 48,000 and i have never put any oil in it between services, it's on once a year service normally done between 9k-10k.

As an idea for the 2.0 CR, mines a 2010 vRS with 165,000 on the clock now and it has never drunk a drop of oil or needed topping up despite checking weekly...

My cr vrs has 60k on the clock now and doesn't use much at all now. From about 15k to 50ish, it seemed to use a bit.

Thanks Phil, seems that's a phase mine's going through at the mo.

Mine used some during the first few thousand miles, but at 9k seems to have settled down now and has not needed topping up for some time. I do a mix of local and motorway driving.

1.6 tdi cr/manual, 29.630 kms on the clock just going to service next Monday. 0.00 liters of oil top up so far.  :mmm:
