Getting a bit worried about this, and the heartache it can cause, so wondering if there's any preventative maintenance, or is it p'raps a wise move to simply replace all four after a certain age?

Anyone know what actually causes this nasty problem?

 

Next doors Passat n/s front door has just jammed closed. He's going bonkers trying to get it to re-open.

Posted in here btw as this seems to affect many VAG products, not just Skoda.

 

Heard horror stories regarding having to destroy door cards to gain access with the door closed,  and then using a hammer and chisel to release the catch!
