Fuel stats

I don't know which is the saddest number, the fuel economy or that it took 14.5 hours to do a little over 500 miles...

 Is it a DSG?

Yes. Diesel. Caveat on the fuel use, mega hot days so aircon in use at 16.5C, VRS sport mode and lots of mileage in S, high speeds and lots of booting it to see how it performs. Longer term if be hoping for mid to high 40's for it to be a step above the mk2

Aircon has no measurable impact on fuel use, on the other hand the DSG does.  I was tempted to go for the DSG but the overall cost of buy and running it made it seem a bit pointless, i suspect there's very little difference over 3 years than a manual TSI.

Is 24.5° mega hot? Lol! That's roughly our winter temp at the moment and people are complaining about the cold!

Aircon has a big impact on start-stop, and dependent upon where you drive start-stop can make a huge difference. In the current hot weather my VRS hardly ever turns itself off at the lights or when stuck in traffic because it is pulling too much juice trying to keep me cool. At 70mph it may make little difference but at a standstill an idling engine drinks a lot more than one which is off.
