Stumped with this problem?

Featured Replies

Hi my 2006 vRS estate is having an occasional problem and I cant seem to put my finger on it, It went into the garage a few weeks ago for a new drive shaft boot (near side outer) and ended up needing a new CV joint as it fell to bits when the old boot was taken off (i saw this happen).

Since then it has behaved in an odd way, most of the time it drives ok without any problem but the odd time I have had a vibration through the steering wheel as if my wheel was loose or unbalanced, it did it quite bad on Thursday and the esp, Tyre pressure and power steering lights come on, after i stopped to check everything it was OK again and drove normally, I scanned the car with a hand held scanner and there were no codes stored, when I locked the car the alarm went off after 5 minutes, as I was at work I couldn't hear it but was told about it, when I went to check it there were no lights flashing so I thought they must have the wrong car, driving to work tonight the same happened with the vibrations and the alarm again sounded for 30 seconds or so then went off.

I have had the wheels balanced they were OK the mechanic who fitted the CV joint has checked this and its ok so if anyone can shed any light on it i would be grateful.

Logic says that if there was no vibration before the CV joint was changed then something relating to the drive shaft or parts disassembled / reassembled is most likely to be the cause of the problem.

Thats what I thought but the mechanic checked the cv joint, all the bolts and the ball joints and they all seem sound, it's also the electrical side of it, with the alarm going off and the dash lights showing thats getting me thinking and wondering if it's the start of another problem like the abs sensor/teves problem.
