Thule fixing kit - hatchback

Featured Replies

Thule Roof bars...

I have the Thule 1360 fixing kit (brackets and rubber pads) for my old Mk2, 2007 vRS Hatchback.

The new Mk III, 2014 vRS should really have the 1726 fixing kit plus longer bars but I've left it a bit late for reliably ordering before I need to use it for forthcoming holiday.

Besides needing longer bars (which I have actually got) the 1360 fixing kit seems to work reasonably well on my new vRS - providing a good firm fixing that I believe is as secure as it ever was on my old Octavia.  But my concern is that the rubber pads don't mesh in nicely with the contours of the roof.  Am I stupid risking using the 1360 kit - risk of it coming adrift (slight to zero I'd say) and/or risk of damage (more of an unknown quantity - but possibly damage to paintwork from the bracket rubbing - which seemed to be an issue with my previous Octavia and the correct fixing kit anyway)?

Any thoughts?

What I'm really looking for is an excuse to tell the family that they will just have to travel light and not have the roof box on top of the car at all!

Personally, I wouldn't use the wrong fixing kit on my car, but that might just be me being anal about these things...

As for leaving it too late - when do you go on holiday?  You should be able to get the bars / fix kit delivered from Amazon on Tuesday using next day... yeah, it might cost you, but surely it's better than attempting to tell your wife she can't take her entire wardrobe and 38 pairs of shoes on holiday with her!  All you'll get is "I haven't got a thing to wear, and it's all your fault" the whole time :-)

Sadly I can't see the 1726 fixing kit available anywhere on Amazon - or I would have ordered it from them.

The reason it is a bit last minute is that my credit card account was hacked and the account has been suspended pending a new card - which arrived only yesterday.

There are various non-Amazon suppliers offering 3-5 days delivery but despite sending messages to two of them yesterday (both offering 24/7 responses to enquiries) I have heard nothing back confirming that this really is a possibility - obviously the longer they leave it the less likely it is that they can deliver as the clock is ticking.

Not so much the wife wanting space in ten roof box as the 18 & 20 year old daughters.  And the need to take cooking equipment (I am the foodie cook in the family!).
