I bought the Skoda Approved Extended Warranty and Assistance, with 2 years cover costing £600, from a Skoda dealer. Another dealer wanted £864 for the same cover. That warranty can be bought direct from CCP, although I have no idea what they charge for it, or if the offer a 2 year option. What is clear is that it is worth ringing around dealers to find the lowest quote.

I would consider an extended warranty essential for 1.4TSi and 1.8/2.0TSi owners, and for those with 4X4 and DSG options.

And a right buggers muddle that is. If you bought the Skoda Approved Extended Warranty with Assistance before 1 June, as I did, and have occasion to ring the specified breakdown number for assistance, you will be connected to the AA who will tell you that they have no record of your car being covered. When you get over your shock and disbelief, and quote your warranty/assistance policy number, you will be put on hold for a while then the RAC will magically answer and all should proceed smoothly thereafter.

I recall that the RAC had a sort of two tier arrangement with VAG vehicles.  The orange vans were sort of general purpose whereas the silver ones (and I saw a silver one just yesterday) had some sort of higher level of training on VAG vehicles with, maybe, a few spares on board that the mere 'common as muck' ones didn't?

 

I only garnered this top secret information as a silver one turned up when I embarrasingly couldn't start the car due to  'users misoperation syndrome' some time ago.  Very understanding and helpful the bloke was too and did his best not to make me look too much of a tart.

But re reading this post it's seems to confirm that it is the RAC that takes over the Skoda assist for the extended warranty as per my post above.

Until recently it was the RAC for everything. Now the first 3 year Skoda Assist is the AA, and then the confusion arises. It looks like the one taken out when the car is bought is now the AA but they one bought via the dealers is still the RAC.

The Skoda Assistance number for the AA in that link is also the one I used for the RAC.

Today an email from Skoda Customer Service stated;

"I can confirm that the Skoda Assistance Service is only available for the first three years of the cars warranty, however you can purchase additional years cover by contacting the AA direct"

This seems clear to me.

Seems clear to me too, so I retract my assertion earlier, that the extra 2 yrs warranty came with breakdown too.

 

Times they are a changing.

 

Cheapskate that I am I'm currently covered by AutoAid for the princely sum of £39 a year. (And have been with them, on and off, since 1984)

Quoted and paid for extra 2 years warranty the on Yeti 2WD and with roadside it was £649, evidently 4WD was another 50 notes..no roadside they wanted 599.

 

In the meantime they have been preregistering Superbs so traded in the Yeti and give them their due the dealership refunded the warranty money despite being more than 14 days in, however with all the roadside assistance changes I was told there's very little info being sent out at the moment so never received any info including the 14 day cooling off notices..

I specifically asked if assist continued into the extended warranty before adding it to my order. It's supposed to be the same as the standard 3 year, just with 80K and 100K mileage limits for years 4 and 5.

 

...which just goes to show the dealers didn't understand the difference between the extended warranty & assistance packages. I've just had a letter** from Skoda saying my assistance cover is about to expire. Renewal isn't too steep; £145 for the two years which is cheaper than going to the AA direct, but not something I was expecting to pay at this time. I've just paid for the car tax and MOT & service are due in a fortnight - SWMBO will not be pleased!

My good lady drives a VW UP and her recovery was due for renewal as the tight arses only give 1 yr with a new car.

It is also with AA. She works for John Lewis and gets a favourable 50% off the AA through them.

When she called for a quote she was told go via VW, as they get 75% off.

It would appear the VW - Audi - Skoda etc group get a good deal.

My yeti Skoda assist renewal is £89 for 12 months but I have free basic AA road side assistance with my Lloyds Bank gold account.

When I called AA to increase the cover to same as Skoda the AA wanted £139 extra so £89 is cheap on that basis.

My credit card gives me free travel insurance including hire car wavers.....it's worth knowing....it make hire cars significantly cheaper.

If you shop at Tesco and have one of their Clubcards, the vouchers you "earn" on purchases can be used to buy RAC breakdown cover at a substantial discount, though it's not as good now as it was a couple of year ago when it was around 75% off.

(I have no connection with Tesco, other than being a customer who has used their Clubcard boost to get my RAC cover.)
