mot advisory's

Featured Replies

got an advisory on my mot from last week .

apparently the standard set of tyres fitted on the car octy vrs 225/40/18 have magically grown since 2009 & are now protruding past the wheel arches .

car was taken for its mot by the place changing my timing belt so couldn't actually speak to them in person

not done at my usual place & wont be getting them to do it again

The amazing growing wheels! Don't park on compost.

I've often thought the wheels do protrude slightly, never thought on MOT tester would mention it.

But why an advisory, if they protrude it's a fail - vague memory at least, I am no expert!

All VRS's off the road now!

So Skoda have specified illegal tyres and we are all driving around with our tyre's hanging out? Bum!

when did they change from 16 to 18 when the mkII came out . if so at least all the mkI owners are driving legally  :giggle:

Is that tyre size listed inside the fuel filler flap for your car? If so, the car will have Type Approval for them.

yes its the standard tyre on all ?? mkII octavia vrs's as stated in original post

When entering the test results, there's a section called 'Non Component Advisories', this section lists a lot of standard phrases for common advisory items and these advisories are selected by ticking a a box and in some cases there is another box to tick if the tester considers the advisory as dangerous.

I believe (which I can check when I next test) that the advisory for wheelarch protrusion is on the non component list, it could also be next to another advisory such as engine covers fitted or undertrays fitted so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that this has been selected in error.

Sigh. Do you think it might have been pertinent to mention that in the original post?

What offset are the FX4s?

  • Author

don't know what the off set is . i thought i had didn't re-read my original post until you commented on it & realized it was not in it

On the selector I have, the Fox FX004s are not listed for the Octy MK2.

have found the paperwork it states

FOX FX004 8.0Jx18" 5/112 ET45  CB57.1MM

had them on since march 2012 passed two previous mot's with no mention

dont know the spec for the original monza's but surely they must be the same as the standard 5 spoke 18" neptunes is that are fitted to all other vrs's

Standard NEPTUNES are 7.5JX18" ET51. Your FOX alloys extend 12mm outwards compared with the NEPTUNES which may explain the MOT Advisory.

Wheel protrusion has been removed from the PG9 prohibition manual which closely resembles the MOT Testers manual. I'm surprised it's still listed there.

was & still am a novice as far as cars go . went into tyre specialist & explained what i wanted . get rid of monza's & replace them with as close as possible multi spoke & new set of rubber same size as on there already. he recomended the fox fx004 . didn't say anything about different offset or any of the other stuff you guys have mentioned. .

bit of a novice question how does that effect the tyre fit  if the alloys are slightly different but tyre is the same
